Today (5 July 2022) is the 5100th day for the blog.

Blog Day :

5100 Post No. : 17034

Regulars may have noticed lack of activity in the blog on my part for the last ten odd days. From June 25 till June 28, 7 posts were published and all these articles were posted by Sudhir jee. I had specifically requested him on 24 June 2022 that “it will be difficult for me to find time for publishing new posts from 24 june till 27 June. So I request you to uphold the blog flag for these four days.”

Sudhir jee had promised to do the needful, viz ensuring that we had at least one post on each of these days. He ended up publishing four posts on 27 June 2022, prompted by an over-enthusiastic Avinash Scrapwala, who sent many RD Burman write ups on that day for publication. 🙂

I was extremely busy from the evening of 23 June till noon of 28 June. I was journeying throughout these days, crisscrossing various places, never staying in one place for more than one day. I was in mission mode to achieve mission critical tasks where Icould not afford to fail.

What exactly were there mission critical tasks ?

Convocation ceremony of 2016 batch of MBBS students of LTMMC was to take place on 24 June. As proud parents of our daughter who was among the one hundred plus MBBS students successfully completing their course and internship from LTMMC (Lokmanya Tilak Municipal Medical college), I and my wife obviously had to be present in Mumbai on this occasion. I took an evening flight from Gorakhpur to Mumbai on 23 june and arrived Mumbai at around 9 PM. My wife, who was at Bhopal, took an evening train (Punjab Mail) at Rani Kamlapati and arrived Mumbai on the morning of 24 June.

The convocation ceremony took place at the iconic Shanmukhananda auditorium of Mumbai, which is located close to LTMMC in Sion, Mumbai. I had read about this famous auditorium many times. Many well known cultural programs have taken place in this auditorium. Portraits of some legendary artists hang on the walls of the auditorium.

The convocation ceremony, which was supposed to start at 10 AM, started late, after 12 noon. The 2700 plus seat capacity auditorium was full of relatives of the students. While there were many from Mumbai and other parts of Maharashtra, several sets of parents and relatives had come from all over India, and some from abroad as well.

The 14 dignitaries (including six ladies) who were welcomed and seated on the dais were the “who is who” of medical fraternity in Mumbai.

The function was not a boring affair. These convocations held at Mumbai are very much like the film city functions, full of songs and dances. The students entered the hall dancing to some new popular Hindi movie songs, which I was obviously oblivious of. 🙂 They then took their seats in the front rows of the auditorium.

All the 14 dignitaries gave their speeches. That was followed by the function where individual students were called by name and handed over their certificates, medals etc. It was quite filmy ishtyle program. The name of the student and his/her details would be announced. Then a filmy song would play and the student would make a grand entry on the stage, dancing to that tune. Most of these tunes were new (unfamiliar to me), but I was happy to note that some of the students danced to the tunes of 1970s and 1980s Hindi movie songs as well. 🙂

The medals and certificate distribution went on till after 2 PM. then it was lunch break. After lunch break, four videos, prepared and shot by the students themselves, that showed their stay during these years in the college, were played. My daughter was co producer, director, (and actor too) in one of these videos. 🙂

It was evening when the gala function finally came to a close. The hectic and satisfying day had passed, but another hectic day awaited the two of us the next day. I and my wife had to catch an early morning flight to Gorakhpur the next day (25 June 2022).

We checked in to a hotel near the airport on the night of 24 June. We woke up at 4 AM in the morning and left for the airport. The flight was at 6 AM. We arrived Gorkhpur before time at 8 AM on 25 June which was a Saturday. After arriving at home, I (rather my wife), got busy in the task that was upon us. 90 % of the household items, including the car had already been sent to Bhopal in February 2022. The remaining items were now required to be packed and loaded on a truck to be dispatched to Bhopal. This work is normally done by professional packers, but my wife does it herself.

The truck was dispatched in the afternoon. Then we went to the gas agency and surrendered the gas connection.

The most important ‘item’ that we needed to shift was not luggage, but the two pets, namely Bhole and Izza. The cat had been shifted to Bhopal in February and that was less challenging because the cat went in our car along with wife and daughter. Taking the dogs by car for 1000 km was out of question because the car was no longer there in Gorakhpur. Moreover, the junior dog, Izza, is a very poor road traveller and she gets sick at the prospect of a road travel.

Fortuitously, there was one direct train from Gorakhpur towards Bhopal the very next morning (26 June 2022). It is the only train from Gorakhpur towards Bhopal that has an AC first coach in it. According to Railway rules, dogs can be taken either in dog box kept in Guard van (an unrealistic rule) or in AC first coach, if fellow passengers do not object. The best way to eliminate fellow passengers’ objection is to ensure that we book a two berth coupe (there are two such coupes in AC first coach). I had asked my staff to sound out the person who allots berths in the train including AC first that we should be allotted a two berth coupe.

But that is not all. Dogs are needed to be booked on the train. You need to have health certificate for them issued by a vet who certifies that they are fit to travel by train. That certificate is produced at the parcel office along with owners’ ticket and ID proof. Then a ticket is issued for the dogs allowing then to travel by train. Mostly, this booking of pets takes place one hour before the train has to start and the pets must be presented at the booking office. But that was a very challenging scenario. Gorakhpur Railway station is a very vast Railway station. The parcel booking office is in platform number one, whereas the train leaves from platform number nine. The two platforms are like two terminals of Mumbai Airport. So I sent my staff to convince the parcel officials to issue the pets documents earlier, if possible.

Next morning, my staff, who had reached the station at 5 AM, phoned me informing me that the tickets for the pets had been booked. Booked without taking the pets to the parcel office ! That was a big relief. So we directly reached at platform nine. There is a road running parallel to the platform. So we reached close to our coach and boarded the train along with the pets and luggage. The staff who had got the pets ticket booked handed me the document. I profusely thanked the staff, but failed to notice that the ticket price was Rs 400/-. However, I paid the money to the staff later.

After some initial discomfiture, both dogs, including Izza made themselves comfortable. Bhole, as is his wont being a down to earth dog, preferred to sit down on the floor. I made Izza sit on the lower berth and she soon made herself comfortable there, much to our relief.

Though we had sent most of our luggage earlier, but subsequently my wife discovered some more items that needed to be carried with us. So our luggage had become considerable. In Gorakhpur, the staff took care of carrying the luggage. I needed similar help at Bhopal. So I phoned the mechanical officer at Bhopal and requested for the help of his staff in carrying my luggage. The train arrived Bhopal before time at 8:40 PM (scheduled arrival time was 8:55 PM). The luggage and pets were deboarded.

Our daughter, after her convocation on 24 June had taken a morning flight to Bhopal on 25 June. She was to receive us at Bhopal. All the luggage and the two pets were somehow accommodated in the car. Izza, whom I was holding in the front passenger seat was putting up a stiff fight. Somehow I managed to restrain her while we arrived at the home. So our pets were successfully transported from Gorakhpur to Bhopal.

Next morning (27 June), the daughter had to go back to Mumbai. She drove the car herself to the airport. In the return direction, I drove the car back to the home. By the time we arrived home and had our breakfast etc, the daughter had already reached Mumbai. 🙂

I had my train back towards Gorakhpur in the afternoon. The train got delayed by about three hours. I boarded the train in the evening instead of afternoon, and arrived Gorakhpur at noon of 28 June, instead of morning.

If I was busy till morning on 28 June, the other engagements for the next three days were even more important. It is just that I did not have to travel on these days.

The residence items had all been sent. So I needed some other accommodation at Gorakhpur. I had already booked a transit accommodation room in a Railway Officers rest house. I went there. After getting ready, I went to office and sent the quarter vacation memo to the concerned officials. I asked my staff to find out all the clearances that are required to be taken and to take them promptly. It turned out that clearances from five different departments (electricity, telephone etc.) is needed. My staff got busy arranging for these clearances, while I got busy doing things that needed my presence.

Though we had submitted the gas cylinders and regulator two days earlier, but papers were not given on that day because the dealer was unavailable. I went to the gas agency and waited for an hour before the concerned person arrived and I could take the relevant document with me.

In the evening, there was one get together in the Railway Museum in my honor. Looking at my hectic schedule, the organizers of the function were wondering whether I would be able to attend this function. I managed to attend it. When I was asked to give a speech on the occasion, I gave a long speech, all extempore of course.

The next day, viz 29 June 2022 was rather sedate by comparison as there were no pressing engagements on that day. There was one function in the evening where my staff working directly under me honored me. There too I gave one extempore speech. My contents in this speech were different from my speech of 28 June 2022. 🙂

The next date, viz 30 June 2022 was the all important day. More than the day, I was interested in the next day, the pehli taareekh, viz 1 July 2022, when I had an early morning train to Bhopal. It was the same train in which we had transported our pets from Gorakhpur to Bhopal on 26 June 2022.

I spent the morning of 30 June 2022 packing my stuff. I was under strict instructions from my wife not to leave anything behind, not to misplace anything, and complete my packing well in advance etc. I was trying to do all that but as always, I had to leave my packing till last moment, even though my train was early morning on 1 July 2022.

In the office, I tried to clean up my stuff from almirahs, computers etc. In the computer I had logged in to my accounts of WordPress, Gmail, Office365 etc. I tried to log off from most of them but I ran out of time.

There was a function in the afternoon in HQ meeting hall headed by AGM (Additional General Manager). It was followed by a function in our own mechanical department.

Final program of the day was organised in Railway Officers club at night. Officers and their spouses were present in good number on the occasion. It was organised to honor four people including me. After cultural programs, it was time for speeches. When it was time for my speech, I gave another extempore speech. It was a lighthearted speech containing fun facts that was well received by the audience. I also mentioned the song blog towards the end of my speech. I mentioned that I had a Hindi movie songs related site called Atul Song A Day, ASAD in short. Till today, it was ASAD Gorakhpuri, from tomorrow it will be ASAD Bhopali. 🙂

The speeches were followed by dinner. Some of the guests complimented me for my witty speech, which I had thought up at the spur of the moment.

The club day was over at 10:30 PM. I went back to rest house, tried to complete the packing, but I could see that some packing could only be done at the last moment. I set alarm for 4 AM in my mobile and tried to go to sleep.

It was the alarm that woke me up. Then I realized that I had to get ready for the early morning train. I took bath, packed the remaining stuff, and checked to see that nothing was left behind. The car driver was supposed to arrive at 5 :30 AM. My luggage was all packed. All dues of all people (milkman, newsman, the person who booked my pets) were paid. My mobile which gets discharge very fast was plugged in for charging.

The car arrived. I got the stuff loaded in the car, handed over the key to the reception, and left for the station. Halfway towards the station, I pressed my left pant pocket and realized that my mobile was not there. I had forgotten the mobile back in the room. I asked the driver to turn back, the key was again taken from reception. The mobile, plugged in the power socket, was taken along with the charger. Heaving a big sigh of relief, I restarted for the station.

The train, unlike on 26 June 2022, started late. This train kept getting delayed because it went from a much longer diverted route and that took seven hours longer to reach Bhopal. The train, that was supposed to arrive Bhopal at 8:55 PM on 1 July arrived Bhopal at 4:20 AM on 2 July 2022. My luggage had become sizable and I needed to help of Railway staff this time too. The staff arrived to carry my luggage after I had already unloaded them from the train. Just as I was thinking that I may have to wait, I found my wife entering the platform. So, she had arrived to receive me, along with her sister this time. All the luggage was easily accommodated in her sister’s MUV and we left for the Bhopal home. We arrived there when it was early morning.

Why all these hectic activities ? “Blame” my birthday for this which took place on 20 June. That birthday, unlike the previous birthdays meant that it was finally time to say goodbye to Railway service. In other words, I was to retire on 30 June 2022. All the hectic engagements and functions were being held for that reason.

I am very happy and relieved that I managed to overcome all the logistical challenges successfully without any failure anywhere. It was quite a logistical challenge and it took some meticulous planning and co operation of many that led to successful executions of all the plans that were laid out.

To cut a long story short, with effect from 1 July 2022, I am a retired person settled in Bhopal. So this blog is now officially ASAD Bhopali. 😀

Today (5 July 2022) happens to be the 5100th day for the blog. It is an appropriate occasion for me to break this news to the readers of the blog. 🙂

On this occasion, I have chosen a song from ‘Sher e Watan’ (1971). It was directed by Harbans for New Sunrise Productions, Bombay. The movie had Prithviraj Kapoor, Dara Singh, Nishi, Rajan Haksar, Nadira, Bela Bose, Aruna Irani, Bhagwan, Roopali, Pal Sharma, Dhanraj, Saudagar Singh, Prakash, Trilok Singh, Uma Khosla, Bramhachari etc in it.

The movie had four songs in it. One song has already been covered in the blog. This song is sung by Mukesh and Asha Bhonsle. The song is picturised on two females where one plays the role of a male by attaching a thin mustache under her nose.

Usha Khanna is the music director. The main reason why I chose this song is that it is penned by Asad Bhopali. 😀

I request our knowledgeable readers to throw light on the picturisation of the song.

This rarely heard song is a song that grows on you as you get exposed to this song.

It is a nice feeling to be able to join the club of our seniors. Hopefully I will be able to have an active and fruitful second innings like them. 🙂

Blog Day :

5085 Post No. : 17010 Movie Count :

Today, 20th June, 2022 is the birthday of our Respected Dear Atul ji. On this occasion we wish him a very happy birthday and a healthy, wealthy, peaceful and ‘full of musical life’ ahead. . .

Previously while selecting a song for this occasion we were specially looking for songs having ‘geet, safar, gaanaa, gaata chal, gaaye jaa, gungunaata chal, gaata chalaa gaya, etc. and words like these and/or similar words like these woven in a ‘philosophical’ song set up to convey the ‘musical journey’ of Atul ji and this blog. However today I am presenting a totally different song to celebrate this occasion with a rocking song and music, once again in a ‘Jat Yamla’ style. 😀

Also today I will not repeat again what I usually like to mention about Atul ji and my feelings for him and feelings for the blog. I would only like that today he listens to and enjoys this song presented with this post here 🙂

I would once again say ‘Many Happy Returns of the Day to Atul ji’ and move forward to today’s song and its movie.

Today’s song is from the ‘1999’ movie ‘Dillagi’. Today this movie is making its debut on the blog. This film was produced and directed by Sunny Deol for his home production company Vijayta Films. It was presented by Dharmendra.

Kapoor, Jasbir Thandi, Prakash Agarwal, Nirmal, Master Anand, Master Mayank, Master Deepak, Master Arbaaz, and others. New actors introduced in this movie are Praveen Dabas, Amrik Randhawa, Apsara Iyengar, Denise Butler. The movie also has Surekha Sikri in a Guest Apprearance and Preity Zinta in a Special Appearance.

Screenplay of this movie was written by Sutanu Gupta. Dialogues of this movie were written by Sanjay Masoom. Editing of this movie was done by Keshav Naidu. This movie was passed by Censor Board on 08.11.1999.

Lyrics for this movie are written by Javed Akhtar, Sukhwinder Singh, and Tejpal Kaur. Music for this movie is composed by Jatin-Lalit, Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, Sukhwinder Singh, and Anand-Milind. We will know more about this movie in the future when the other songs of this movie are discussed on the blog.

5020 Post No. : 16928

‘Bajrangbali-1976’ was a Joy Films, Bombay presentation directed by Chandrakant.

It had Dara Singh, Vishwajeet, Moushmi Chatterjee, Premnath, Shahi Kapoor, Mehmood, Bal Dhuri, Randhawa, Shahu Modak, Durga Khote, Sulochana, Sushma,
Ulka, Jaya Kaushalya, Asit Sen, Babu Raje, B.M.Vyas, Jagdish Raj, Master Ajay, Master Alankar, Kumar Dighe, Radheshyam, Ramrasila, Ram Mohan, Mukri, Azad, Hercules, Dhanraj, Polson, Moolchand, Krishnakant, Mahesh Bhatt and Sumitra Devi, Jayshree Gadkar, Dulari in Special appearance.

This movie was passed by Censor Board on 12.08.1976.

‘Bajrangbali-1976’ had total eleven songs in it (including one three part and one two part song). All songs are penned by Kavi Pradeep and music for this film was composed by Kalyanji-Anand ji.

‘Hanuman Jayanti’ is being celebrated today on this day of ‘Chaitri Poornima’. On this occasion here is song from this movie ‘Bajrangbali’. Today’s song is sung by Aziz Nazaan and composed by Kalyanji-Anandji. Lyrics are by Kavi Pradeep.

Today’s song happens when somebody from Hanuman Angad sena has to take fly to Lanka in search of Maata Seeta. However nobody has the powers in some way or the other and everybody is requesting Bajrangbali to take this responsibility on his shoulder as he is having all the ‘divyashaktis’. However Bajrangbali is not aware of his powers and so Narad Muni sings this song reminding Bajrangbali his ‘divya shaktis’.

I am unable to identify the actor playing Narad Muni. I would request knowledgeable readers to throw more light on the songs of this movie.

I had watched this movie in my childhood and had vague memories of it. However, I always remember the other song from this movie – hey manwaa re – which I had presented on the blog earlier on 19.11.2016.

Let us now listen to today’s song beautifully sung by Aziz Nazaan.

‘Naseehat’ (1967) was produced by Dara Singh (though Parduman Singh and Saudagar Singh are listed as producers) and directed by Om Patwar for Deedar Movies, Bombay. The movie had Darasingh, Rajshree (South), Randhawa, Savita, Madan Puri, Tiwari, Sapru, Rajan Haksar, Bhagwan Sinha, Leela Mishra, Kundan, Rajan Kapoor, Samson, Uma Dutt, Keshav, Rinku, Meena, Saudagar Singh, Helen, Madhumati and others.

The movie had six songs in it. Four songs have been covered in the past.

Today (28 January 2022) is the 17th remembrance day of OP Nayyar (16 January 1926 – 28 January 2007). On this occasion here is a song from “Naseehat”(1967).

The song is sung by Asha Bhonsle, Kamal Barot and Mahendra Kapoor. SH Bihari is the lyricist. Music is composed by OP Nayyar.

The song is picturised as a dance song aboard a cruise liner. The music begins as a Beatles type western tune on guitar, but it soon gets converted into an arch-typical OP Nayyar punjabi bhangda dance music. The female dancers could be Helen or even her clone Madumati (both figure in the star cast). Male dancer could be Randhawa. I am not sure So I request our knowledgeable readers to help identify the dancers and others seen in the picturisation.

[Ed Note: As dear Prakash ji confirms, the lead dancers are Madhumati and Sheila Ramchandra, and two of the supporting dancers are Manjula and late Saroj Khan.]

Lyrics

teri aankhon ne
in aankhon se
jo baat kahi
hum jaan gaye

teri baaton mein
kya baat chhupi
hum baaton se pehchaan gaye
teri ankhon ne
in aankho se
jo baat kahi
hum jaan gaye
teri baaton mein
kya baat chhupi
hum baaton se pehchaan gaye

chaman mein jab kabhi
chali baade saba
dabi aawaaz mein
ye kaliyon se kaha
raho hoshiyar o o o
chaman waalon zara
raho hoshiyaar o o
chaman waalon zara

hoye kaun ye jaane
toot ke bijli
kab gir jaati hai
teri aankhon ne
in aankhon se
jo baat kahi
hum jaan gaye
teri baaton mein
kya baat chhupi
hum baaton se pehchaan gaye

tumhaare pyaar ki
koi meethhi nazar
ghadi bhar ke liye
sahaara de agar
to maujon mein rahoon oon
kinaara chhod kar
to maujon mein rahoon oon
kinaara chhod kar
ho pyaar hai jin ko
toofanon se
kab ghabraate hain

teri aankhon ne
in aankhon se
jo baat kahi
hum jaan gaye
teri baaton mein
kya baat chhupi
hum baaton se pehchaan gaye

yahi baanki ada
yahi deewaanapan
ye dil ki dhadkanen
ye manzil ki lagan

salaamat hai agar
to phir ae jaaneman
salaamat hai agar
to phir ae jaaneman
hoy chaar kadam tum chal kar dekho
manzil aa jaaye

teri aankhon ne
in aankhon se
jo baat kahi
hum jaan gaye
teri baaton mein
kya baat chhupi
hum baaton se pehchaan gaye
teri aankhon ne
in aankhon se

Lata Mangeshkar worked with 11 music directors and 18 lyricists in these 33 movies released in 1983. Laxmikant Pyarelal continued to be the most prolific music directors with Lata, with 590 songs in HFM with Lata Mangeshkar by the end of 1983. Shankar Jaikishan with 456 songs in the voice of Lata Mangeshkar were in the second position. Kalyanji Anandji were third with 301 songs. R D Burman with 275 songs overtook C Ramchandra with 274 songs. Other top music directors for Lata Mangeshkar were Chitragupta (239), Madan Mohan (195), S D Burman (179), Roshan (144), Naushad (140), Hemant Kumar (127), Anil Biswas (120), Husnlal Bhagatram (108), Salil Chaudhary (108) and Vasant Desai (104). Together these fifteen music directors composed 3360 songs out of 4655 songs that Lata Mangeshkar had sung in Hindi movies till end of 1983. Anand Bakshi with 587 songs was the top lyricist with Lata Mangeshkar. Other leading lyricists with Lata Mangeshkar were Rajinder Krishan (554), Majrooh Sultanpuri (399), Shailendra (361), Hasrat Jaipuri (297), Prem Dhawan (201), Bharat Vyas (193), Shakeel Badayuni (189), Sahir Ludhianvi (161) and Indeewar (118). These ten lyricists had penned 3060 songs sung by Lata Mangeshkar till that time.

Lata Mangeshkar collaborated with music directors Chaand Pardesi and Uttam Jagdish for the first time in movies of this year. She also worked with Lyricists Pradeep Kaushik, Sawan Kumar Tak, Sameer, Rana Sahri and Qateel Shifaifor the first time in movies released this year.

Here I have assumed that Chaand Pardesi was different from music director Pardesi with whom Lata mangeshkar had worked in the past. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw light on this matter.

Here is the summary of Lata Mangeshkar’s playback career in Hindi movies till end of 1983 :

Blog ten year challenge (2010-2020)- Song Number 81
————————————————–

OK, so finally ‘Anmol Ghadi’ got yippeee’d this week, on the very first day of the week. And Atul ji, still waiting for you to clear the mystery behind this yippeee.

Once again, a very prolific week, the pace of post updates continues in full swing. Except that one day this week, we scored only a single. But for the rest of the week, it was all sixes with one extra run from an overthrow.

The blog scored 38 posts this week. Of these 38, we had only one guest post for the week – by Santosh Ojha ji. A total of 36 films made their appearance, with two films scoring two appearances each. We had 1 film that reached yippeee status. A whopping 15 films made their debut this week. That is close to almost half the films that got featured that week.  Since that week was done with, of the 36 films featured, 26 films have been formally and fully yippeee’d. Ten of them are still awaiting their numbers to be fully showcased. Given below is the detailed chart for the week. You will notice a new column and new notations today. I will explain them later in this write up.

6 Sharaarat 1972 6 7 Yippeee’d

You may notice that I used the phrase ‘formally and fully’ to qualify the yippeee status of the films. The reason I used this phrase is the following. As we are making progress towards our ideal of bringing on board all the Hindi film songs, we do find ourselves against certain difficult limitations. These have to do with – one, non availability of certain songs, and two, erroneous or missing information about some films and songs. I will highlight these situations as we progressively face them. For this week, here are the difficult situations that I came across.

The first one is the film ‘Mukhdaa’ from 1951. This film debuted on our blog on 16th Sep ten years back. The film has 11 songs, as per the Geet Kosh listings. We have located and posted 9 of them over the past decade. The remaining two are practically untraceable. Firstly, of the 11 songs listed, one was never put on a gramophone record, as the producers planned for and contracted with HMV for only 5 discs, which means 10 songs in all. The song at serial no. 6 – “Dekho Jee Pehli Baar, Kiya Hai Tumse Pyaar” was never released on a gramophone record. Then comes a footnote in the Geet Kosh which states that one record, N36900 was ordered, but then cancelled later on. It never got published, although the songs were recorded. This record was supposed to carry the two songs at serial no. 3 – “Mehlon Ke Rehne Waale Mehlon Mein Hans Rahe Hain” and serial no. 7 – “Poochhiye Na Haal Jee, Palle Nahin Maal Jee”. So that would mean that we should have 3 missing songs and not 2.

But wait, here is one more interesting twist in the story. It seems that after cancelling the publication of the record N36900, the producers went ahead and commissioned one more record, with number N50008. Looking at the huge gap in the series number of the records, it is clear that the latter record (N50008) was ordered much later than 1951. Strangely, this newly ordered record now carried the song at serial no. 7 – “Poochhiye Na Haal. . .” and the song at serial no. 10 – “Jaa Teri Meri, Meri Teri”. This latter song at serial no. 10 was already published and is available as one side of the record with number N36870, the flip side of which carries the song at serial no. 5 – “Neele Se Dupatte Pe Hain Peeli Peeli Dhaariyaan”. The net outcome of these, what I shall call – confusing decisions – is that the song at serial no. 10 – “Jaa Teri Meri. . .” is now available on two distinct published gramophone records for this film. And the song at serial no. 3 – “Mehlon Ke Rehne Waale. . .” has got lost, probably forever. The saving grace is that the song at serial no. 7 – “Poochhiye Na Haal Jee. . .” is now available. It might also have been lost forever, but for this confusing set of decisions, which saved this song for posterity. And so the songs at serial no. 6 (this one not planned at all for release on gramophone record) and the song at serial no. 3 (unpublished due to cancellation of one gramophone record), are likely never going to surface. They may still be existing on some original spool tapes from the original recordings, and/or they may be on the soundtrack of the film. However, since both these items are not yet available in public domain, and with very little likelhood that they will make an appearance in the future, we could label them as LFe (Lost Forever). That does leave us two songs short of ever declaring this film as yippeee’d.

Coming to the second similar instance, also from this week. The film is ‘Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam’ from 1962. It had made its debut on our blog on 23rd Dec, 2008. The seventh song of this film was posted on 24th Sep, 2011. Geet Kosh lists 8 songs for this film. The missing song is the one at serial no. 5 – “Sahil Ki Taraf Kashti Le Chal, Toofaan Ke Thapede Sehna Kya”. As per the listing, this song was recorded in the voice of Hemant Kumar. This song never got published on a gramophone record. Now eight total songs will completely fit on 4 gramophone discs. But the producer seems to have taken a decision to completely omit this song. In fact, the song at serial no. 6 – “Bhanwra Bada Naadaan Haaye”, makes appearance on two gramophone discs nos. N54036 and N54038, while the above mentioned song in Hemant Kumar’s voice has been completely axed from any publication. It does not exist in the film. The film information booklet lists this song, and that is just about it. Here is one more case where a song qualifies to be labeled as LFe. And that also leaves the film ‘Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam’ one song short of being declared as yippeee’d.

Based on the above discussed circumstances, these two films will never reach the Yippeee status. So I have a proposal here to address this situation. In the face of such stern circumstances, I propose that we introduce a Yippeee variant status – ‘Conditional Yippeee’ – to be indicated as ‘Yc’ in our charts and tables. In such cases, when we come to the conclusion that it is (almost) impossible that one or more songs of a certain film will ever be traced, we may declare that film to be Conditinally Yippeee’d, once all the possibly available songs are accounted for on our blog. The proposal is presented for consideration of the team, and I would request other members to please present their views and comments. In the table above of the week’s status ten years ago, I am provisionally marking these two films as ‘Yc’, pending agreement by the team,

This week we have one more case of a partial missing song in a multi part / multi version scenario. In the case of the film ‘Chaand Mere Aaja’ from 1957. The main theme song of the film – “Chaand Ko Dekho Ji” / “Chaand Mere Aa Ja Re” – has one additional part, identified as the sad version. Details of this part are provided by dear Prakash ji, including the additional lyrics. Just that we as editors have not yet gotten around to update the post itself. In fact, the HFGK listing shows 7 songs, which include this sad version of the song. This sad version of the song is not released on gramophone discs, and is available only from the film itself. My effort is to get this post updated within a day, and be able to change the pending status of this film from ‘0.5’ to ‘0’. And by the way, the Geet Kosh listing has one incomplete information relating to this song. It lists Lata Mangeshkar as the singer of this part. However, as we view the video, we find that this part is in the voices of both Rafi Sb and Lata ji.

Let me come to the song for today. This discussion on errors and limitations has become quite long. I also wanted to write about the film ‘Doctor’ of 1941 and the related info error in the Geet Kosh. I encountered this error the previous week. But I will write about it in the next episode of this series.

‘Hercules’ of 1964, has quite a dubious distinction to note. The first song, the debut of this film, came on board on 18th September, 2010. Today, I bring on board the second song of this film. Interesting that this film has been in hibernation for a full decade, despite the fact that there are some wonderful songs pending for this film. As is evidenced by the song in this post – a Helen dance song in a royal darbaar setting. The words come from the pen of Anand Bakshi, the music is from the mind of N Datta and the singing voice is Asha Bhosle. On screen we see Dara Singh, as Hercules, in chains, possibly being prepared for execution. Other actors we see in this not so clear a video clip, are Nishi, BM Vyas, Maruti Rao, Leela Misra, P Kailash and Indira Billi.

Helen’s performance is her usual self – so wonderfully elegant and graceful, even as she gives a sensuous performance. The ease with which she is coordinating the dance movements, the lip syncing, the facial expressions et al – she is a master class all by herself.

I request the readers to please do comment on the proposed ’Conditional Yippeee’ status and the associated notation introduced in this week’s chart. Thanks.

Blog 10-Year Challenge (2010-2020) – Song No. 71
———————————————————————————–

This date ten years ago (viz 5 september 2010) saw business as usual in the blog. Six songs from six movies were discussed chronologically in the order in which these movies were released.
Here are the details:-

Song Movie title-Year Remarks
Mat bolo bahaar ki batiyaan re Prem Nagar-1940 11 songs covered out of 13
Udan khatole pe ud jaaun Anmol Ghadi-1946 All songs covered

Ho more gore badan pe gulaabi nazariyaa na daal Sikandar E Azam-1965 03 songs posted

One can see that “Prem Nagar”(1940) and “Sikandar e Azam”(1965) are the only two movies from that day which still have a few songs left to be covered. “Prem Nagar”(1940) balance songs are not available, so that leaves us with “Sikandar e Azam”(1965) as the only movie eligible for the “Blg Ten Year Challenge” today ten years later on 5 september 2020.

Three songs from “Sikandar e Azam”(1965) have been covered so far. Here are the details:-

Song-Pilaayi toone o saaqiyaa (Sikandar e Azam)(1965) Singer-Asha Bhonsle, Lyrics-Rajinder Krishan, MD-Hansraj Bahl

Lyrics(Provided by Avinash Scrapwala)

pilaayi toone o saaqiyaa
to main sharaab pee gayi
meri khataa aa maaf kar
main behisaab pee gayi ee
pilaayi toone o saaqiyaa
to main sharaab pee gayi
meri khataa maaf kar
main behisaab pee gayi ee
pilaayi tune o saaqiyaa
to main sharaab pee gayi

kisi nazar ye kah diyaa hai
ke aaj tu aaftaab ho ja
chaman chaman ki bahaar ban jaa
kali kali ka shabaab ho ja
kali kali ka shabaab ho ja<
main ek zarraa thi khaaq ka
lo aaftaab pee gayi
meri khataa maaf kar
main behisaab pee gayi ee
pilaayi toone o saaqiyaa
to main sharaab pee gayi

kahaan chalaa ke naseeb ne bhi
kahaan pe mujhko bithhaa diya hai
wo honth jin par udaasiyaan thin
unhe bhi hansnaa sikhaa diyaa hai
unhe bhi hansnaa sikhaa diyaa hai
pyaar ka jaam jab milaa
to main janaab pee gayi ee
meri khataa aa maaf kar
main behisaab pee gayi ee
pilaayi toone o saaqiyaa
to main sharaab pee gayi

kisi ne dekhaa hai aaj mukhko
kuchh is tarah pyaar ki nazar se
khizaan ke mausam mein jaise aa kar
kahin se abr e bahaar barse
kahin se abr e bahaar barse
achchhi nazar …?
yaa kharaab ?? gayi
meri khataa maaf kar
main behisaab pee gayi ee
pilaayi toone o saaqiyaa
to main sharaab pee gayi
meri khataa aa maaf kar
main behisaab pee gayi ee
pilaayi toone o saaqiyaa
to main sharaab pee gayi
pee gayi ee
pee gayi
main sharaab pee gayi ee

#The Decade of Seventies – 1971 – 1980 #

In the mission of covering ‘movies with same title’ on the blog, today’s song introduces ‘Har Har Mahadev-1974’, which is making its debut on the blog today with this song. We already have a movie ‘Har Har Mahadev’ of the year ‘1950’ on the blog.

‘Har Har Mahadev-1974’ a ‘mythological movie’ was directed by Chandrakant for ‘Joy Films’. Chandrakant was also the producer of this movie. It had Dara Singh, Jayshree Gadkar, Padma Khanna, Uma, Aruna Irani, Sujata, Gopi Kishan, Satyajeet, Abhi Bhattacharya, Randhawa, Shahu Modak, Asit Sen, Babu Raje, Arvind Pandya, Azad, Master Tito, Suryakumar, Ratnamala, Himmat Singh Chauhan, Dilip Dutt, Vishwas Kunthe, Hercules, Polsan, Moolchand, Rajrani, Saudagar Singh, Jagdish Raj, V.Gopal, Pal Sharma, Radheshyam, Rinku, Narmada Shankar, Anil Kumar, Dhanraj Pehalwan, Minal Mehta, Uma Khosla, Manjiri Desai, Devyani Thakkar, Sarita Devi, Shri Bhagwan, Sitaram, Shery, Kedar Saigal, Thakur G.S. and others. Sumitra Devi made a special appearance in this movie.

Story of this movie was written by Pragji Dosa and dialogues were written by Ramesh Pande. Editing of this movie was done by Ram Khade and Vithoba Surve.

This movie had as many as seven songs in it written by Kavi Pradeep and music composed by Kalyanji-Anandji. Singers Lata Mangeshkar, Mahendra Kapoor, Aziz Nazan and Kanchan had given their voices to the songs in this movie.

This movie was passed by censor board on 22.08.1974.

Dara Singh played the role of Mahadev in this movie. Today 12th July 2020 is the eighth remembrance anniversary (19.11.1928- 12.07.2012) of this most loved personality of Indian Cinema.

He is mostly remembered and loved for the mythological character of ‘Hanuman’, he also played Bhagwan Shiv in some of the movies viz. ‘Tulsi Vivaah-1971’, ‘Hari Darshan-1972’, and ‘Har Har Mahadev-1974’ (as per information available on ‘wiki’).

Remembering him today on his Remembrance Day and paying our tributes to him with this song picturised on him where he as Mahadev is seen in his ‘dhyan mudra’ while Jayshree Gadkar as devi Parvati is also seen.

This song a ‘shiv stuti bhajan’ is sung by Mahendra Kapoor and on screen it is lip sync by Babu Raje (playing ‘Narad muni’ here) and another actor whom I am unable to identify. There are many other artists who are performing in this wonderful song.

Let us now enjoy this song written by Kavi Pradeep ji in this auspicious month of ‘shraavan’ which is already in progression in some parts of the country and about to begin in next week in other parts of the country.

With this song ‘Har Har Mahadev-1974’ makes its debut on the blog.

“Jung Aur Aman”(1968) was directed by Nanubhai Bhatt for Metro Movie Production, Bombay. This movie had Dara Singh, Mumtaz, Jayant, Nadira, Mohan Choti, Krishna Kumari, Rajen Haksar, Murad etc in it.

The movie had five songs in it. One song has been covered in the past.

Here is the second song from “Jung Aur Aman”(1968) to appear in the blog. The song is sung by Suman Kalyanpur. Prem Dhawan is the lyricist. Music is composed by G S Kohli.

The song is picturised as a dancing under duress genre of song where Dara Singh is tied at a stake and Mumtaz has to dance to save his life. So this song is picturised under circumstances similar to “Basanti in kutton ke aage mat naachna” circumstance in “Sholay” (1975). 🙂
