Pyaar muhabbat ke siwaa ye zindagi kyaa zindagi

If one listens to just the audio of this song, it sounds unmistakably like a song from a Shammi Kapoor movie. The song is sung by Rafi and Asha Bhonsle, Lyrics is by Hasrat Jaipuri, music is by Shankar Jaikishan. It all seems to add up. The song even has Rafi shouting “Hurray” (reminiscent of “Yaahoo” in an earlier Shammi Kapoor movie)
But once you watch the picturisation , this turns out to be a boat song picturised on Saira Bano and… Shammi Kapoor Dev saab. This song where the two apparently are marooned in high sea 😉 called for Shammi Kapoor’s presence. Dev Saab appears rather inhibited in a situation of this sort. Most moving and shaking in this song is provided by Saira Bano, and it is she who seems to get wet.Dev Saab is not seen to respond much as if worrying about catching cold. 😉
I actually think that the movie maker had Shammi Kapoor in mind when he thought of making this movie and ended up signing Dev saab. In later years, we saw another case, viz “The Train”, where Rajesh Khanna had to act Shammi Kapoor style, especially in the picturisation of songs.
The song itself is outstanding. Both Rafi and Asha Bhonsle have excelled in this song. This song, apart from being considered a boat song, can well be considered as the title song of this movie as well, considering that the phrase “Pyaaar Mohabbat” , which is also the title of this 1966 movie, figures in the lyrics of this song.

As can be seen, Dev Anand is a total misfit for this song. And there is absolutely no chemistry between him and Saira Banu.
I saw this movie a few years ago. Till this song the movie was just about OK. After this, it began going rapidly downhill.
The song itself is good and lively though. Rafi-Asha do justice to it even if the famous actors do not.
