O paape na sharmaa

Posted on: July 2, 2009

Here is a party song from “Sagaai” (1966). This song is sung by Rafi. It is Madhumati and another female dancer who perform dance on this song. The actor lip syncing in Rafi’s voice is Johny Whiskey. This must be one of the very few occasions when Johny whiskey got to “sing” a song in a movie.

This song is written by Rajinder Krishan and its music is composed by Ravi.

Incidentally, I first became aware of this song just yesterday. That is how it is with me for many songs.

Song-O paape na sharma (Sagaai) (1966) Singer-Rafi, Lyrics-Rajinder Krishan, MD-Ravi

Lyrics

O paape na sharmaa
kuchh garmi sardi khaa
aaj khushi ka din hai pyaare
jab bhi wab bhi paa
O paape na sharmaa
kuchh garmi sardi khaa
aaj khushi ka din hai pyaare
jab bhi wab bhi paa
o paape na sharmaa

badh ke lagaa le hothon se jaam ko
aaye hain door se jalwe salaam ko
badh ke lagaa le hothon se jaam ko
aaye hain door se jalwe salaam ko
roz nahin milte ye mauke
kuchh to rang zamaa
O paape na sharmaa
kuchh garmi sardi khaa
aaj khushi ka din hai pyaare
jab bhi wab bhi paa
o paape na sharmaa

aankhon ki mastiyaan pyaalon me ghol de
dil me jo baat hai khul ke wo bol de
aankhon ki mastiyaan pyaalon me ghol de
dil me jo baat hai khul ke wo bol de
kahte hain zulfon ke saaye pyaar ke raahi haan
o paape na sharmaa
kuch garmi sardi khaa
aaj khushi ka din hai pyaare
jab bhi wab bhi paa
o paape na sharmaa

le le sahaaraa baahen pukaaren
chali na jaayen aake bahaarein
le le sahaaraa baahen pukaaren
chali na jaayen aake bahaarein
aankhon se aankhen takraa ke
dil ki pyaas bujhaa
o paape na sharmaa
kuchh garmi jaldi khaa
aaj khushi ka din hai pyaare
jab bhi wab bhi paa
o paape na sharmi
kuchh garmi sardi khaa
aaj khushi ka din hai pyaare
jab bhi wab bhi paa
o papapapa
paape na sharmaa

Wow…that was very quick !!! I gave you the farmaish only yesterday.
Thanks a lot !!!
I must have seen this movie as a very young boy. This song got imprinted somewhere in my brain. For years I remembered the song without knowing the movie. And then a few years back I saw “Sagaai” and – when this song played – I jumped up.
I searched for it a lot on youtube for a long time – but could not find it. It is only much later that somebody posted it on youtube.

Nice timepass song, isn’t it ?

Hey, The dancers are neither Helen or Bela Bose. Though I do not know the names of the female dancers, I have seen one of them , the lead dancer, in another song in your blog.

I love your blog, by the way, I visit every day, after I come back from work. Your descriptions about the song is what I like the most which often take a humorous tone. Then there is added bonus of having the lyrics for an impromptu sing-along session.

Cheers

Sorry I cannot identify the other dancer with Helen, but she is
definitely not Bela Bose, a favourite of mine in years past. The
girl sitting at the table is Praveen Chowdhury(acted as the
younger sister to Kalpana in “Professor” with Shammi Kapoor”.
Whatever has happened to Praveen? Has she passed away?

Atul,
I’ve posted several requests for a song entitled “Panghat
na jao” from the movie “Hamara Ghar”. Kindly see whether you
can accomodate me on this, please.

Roy, I have been looking for the video of your farmaish. So far I have not been able to locate it. I will post the song as soon as I can find a link for it. I am aware of a “Hamara Ghar” in which Chitragupta was the music director. But I could not find a song with these lyrics there.

That is Madhumati dancing (not Helen) along with someone I don’t recognize (not Bela either though). Helen has a different dance in this film, a mujra called “Sajan Tori Preet” which is very nice but totally different from this one!

It’s a pretty awful film as I recall, but the song you’ve posted here is the highlight :-)))

I would like to have the songs of ” Hamara Ghar ” which was a children’s film made in 1964 by K A Abbas.

Thanks
