Kaahe koyal shor machaaye re

I have read about this song, though I had never heard this song before. yesterday I searched for this song and listened ( and watched) it for the first time.
What a remarkable song it is ! I am especially impressed by the music. I do not think any music director has ever come up with this kind of music. It is superb.
This song is from “Aag” (1948) and it is sung by Shamshad Begam. It is picturised on Nargis, Premnath and Raj Kapoor. Behzad Lucknowi is the lyricist and ram Ganguly composed the music.
This music has kindled my interest in ram Ganguly. I have not heard his name anywhere else other than as the music director of this movie. I need to dig deep and learn more about him. Has anyone got any information about him ?

ho o o o o
kaahe koyal shor machaaye re mohe apnaa koyi yaad aaye re
kaahe koyal shor machaaye re mohe apnaa koyi yaad aaye re
usne kaahe ko nain phiraaye re, o, koyi jaake use samjhaaye re
more dil se jo nikle haay re koyi dosh meraa batlaaye re
more dil se jo nikle haay re koyi dosh meraa batlaaye re
kahdo kahdo koyal se na gaaye re o mohe apna koi yaad aaye re
more nainon mein neer bhar aaye re mohe beete woh din yaad aaye re
more nainon mein neer bhar aaye re mohe beete woh din yaad aaye re
haaye aag lagi hirday mein ho, koyi hirday ki aag bhujhaaye re
meraa jeewan pal pal jaaye re rahoon kab tak aas lagaaye re
meraa jeewan pal pal jaaye re rahoon kab tak aas lagaaye re
koyi jaake use samjhaaye re o, meri maut se pahle aaye re

The only material I could find out about the movies for which he gave music were Aag (1948), Gawaiya (1954) , Sangam (not the 1964 version but probably 1954) and Maharana Pratap (1946). Wiki suggests that because of the differences between Ganguly and Raj Kapoor RK tried out a whole new team of Shankar Jaikishan, Shailendra and Hasrat Jaipuri for Barsaat.

Ram Ganguli also gave music for an obscure movie 10’O CLOCK (1958). Audio clip of Geeta Dutt song is available on YT.

Happened to read your post on this song from “Aag”(1948). The lyricist Behzad Lakhnavi, left India for Pakistan and settled there. His work was predominantly non-film poetry and he lies buried in Karachi.
Ram Ganguly, who composed the music, was working with Prithviraj Kapoor, on stage. Raj Kapoor was keen to rope in SJ but went by his father’s advice and this first directorial venture of RK went with Ram Ganguly’s music. Subsequently, he composed for very few movies and sadly faded from the scene

Atulji,
Ram Gangulay was the M.D. for Prithvi Raj Kapoor’s stage plays. I think one of S.J. worked as assistant to him. When difference of opinion arose between Raj and Gangulay it was rumoured S.J. took over as M.D. for Aag.

Raj Kapoor brought in Shankar. It was Shankar who asked Jaikishan to join him, therby making the musical duo of SJ. The wisest decission Shankar made.
