Mera naam jinny sone ki ginni

“Sindbad AliBaba Alladin” (1965) was a B grade fantasy movie which failed at the box office. Perhaps the movie was created much before its time. If this movie was made now, this movie could well turn out to be a big hit. Greta has posted the review of this movie in her blog and the movie appears to be one that most present day movie watchers should find a highly entertaining movie.
Because the movie flopped, therefore its music suffered too and failed to become popular. In those days, music of even obscure movies often used to have great music. This movie had music by Ravi and I use his name as a guarantee of quality music. So I was convinced, even before listening to the songs of this movie that the songs would be good.
Here is a song from this movie. Alladin (Agha) located a magical lamp, and guess what does he see wit the lamp ? Instead o a Jinn, he sees a jinny (female jinn) and that too of miniature size. a jinny instead of a jinn must have been an orginal idea in 1965. Too bad that the movie watchers of that time failed to appreciate this and many other interesting original ideas that this movie contained.
And that jinny happens to be our much beloved Helen. And how does she introduce herself to Alladin, her master. In a Helenesque manner, of course. She transforms her to normal size and performs a dance accompanied by this song.
This song “mera naam jinni sone ki ginni” is written by S H Bihari and it is sung by Asha Bhonsle.
This song failed to become popular at that time, but I loved this song when I heard it the very first time- which was today.
So here is this wonderful song from a wonderful movie. And I am sure that this movie has many such nice songs.

Song-mera naam jinni sone ki ginni (Sindbad Alibaba Alladin) (1965) Singer-Asha Bhonsle, Lyrics-S H Bihari, MD-Ravi
Lyrics
Mera naam jinni sone ki ginni
chaandi ki gudiya jaadu ki pudiyaa
wallah zara aazmaanaa
Mera naam jinni sone ki ginni
chaandi ki gudiya jaadu ki pudiyaa
wallah zara aazmaanaa
Mera naam jinni
main shahzaadi husn o wafa ki
bekaraar andaaz mera
main shahzaadi husn o wafa ki
bekaraar andaaz mera
shame muhabbat dil me jalaakar
chhede jaa dil ka saaz
gaaun main hardam usi ka taraana taraana
Mera naam jinni sone ki ginni
chaandi ki gudiya jaadu ki pudiyaa
wallah zara aazmaanaa
Mera naam jinni
aaj se pahle koyi deewaana meri nazar me aa na saka
aaj se pahle koyi deewaana meri nazar me aa na saka
dekh wo daulat tujhko mili hai
koi bhi jisko paa na saka
milta hai qismat se aisaa khazaana khazaana
Mera naam jinni sone ki ginni
chaandi ki gudiya jaadu ki pudiyaa
wallah zara aazmaanaa
Mera naam jinni sone ki ginni
chaandi ki gudiya jaadu ki pudiyaa
wallah zara aazmaanaa
Mera naam jinni

Just a wonderful movie with great songs (and Helen gets TWO of them, the other being “Aaj Hai Gulfam Se Bhi Badke”)…
Thanks 🙂
