“Half Ticket” (1962) was a laugh riot which continues to be a much loved movie even to this day among those who enjoy watching comedy movies.
One of the reasons for the success of this movie was almost perfect casting. Kishore Kumar and Madhubala as the lead actors and Pran as the bumbling villain forever on the trail of Kishore Kumar was great fun throughout the movie.
The songs of this movie added to the fun. These songs were sung by Kishore Kumar and these songs were funny in different ways. For instnace, the song “aake seedhi lage” from this movie had Kishore Kumar singing in different voices. This song has been posted in this blog already.
The song under discussion here is “wo ek nigaah kya mili tabeeyar badal gayi”. This is a stage song. Kishore Kumar, who is forever on run from Pran in the movie, enters a hall and finds himself on the stage where a song and dance item is being staged. Of course, Pran is in his trail, and he too finds himself on the stage too. The two of them try to pass themselves as part of the dance troupe. Kishore Kumar ofcourse convinces the lead dancer to help her escape from Pran.
And who is this lead dancer who agrees to help Kishore Kumar escape. It is none other than Helen.
In the past, I have posted songs which are fight songs, where the hero sings while fighting the villains. This song can be called a “chased” song. Here the hero sings this song qwhile he is being chased by the villain.
This song is written by Shailendra and it is composed by Salil Chaudhary. The song is a wonderful example of a Bollywood song which takes elements of western music and integrates them into a Bollywood song. Kishore Kumar and Lata sing this song and the song is picturised on Kishore Kumar, Helen, Pran and others.
