Umrao Jaan, a legendary courtesan of Lucknow was made immortal by the movie “Umrao Jaan” (1981) where Rekha played the title role. The songs of this movie are some of the most well known mujra songs of all time.
But this movie was not the first movie made on the life of Umrao Jaan. One of the first such movie was made in 1958. The movie was “Mehandi” (1958).
When I heard the songs from “Mehandi” recently, I realised that this movie had some very nice mujra songs as well.
Here is a song from this movie. It is sung by Lata. Khumar Barabankwi is the lyricist and music is composed by Ravi. Any idea who is the actress ? (PS- It is Jayshree. Thanks for the information, Bawa.)

Wo aaj apni mehfil mein aye huye hain by Mohammad Rafi from Mehndi (1958) this song is beautifully rendered by Ajit in mushaira style, is missing in your review.
