Shammi Kapoor made his Bollywood debut in 1953. One of his movies that were released that year was “Rail Ka Dibba” (1953). Here where Shammi Kapoor was paired opposite Madhubala.
In this movie, Shammi Kapoor looks nervous and underconfident which is such a far cry from his later years.
Madhubala on the other hand looks as pretty as ever. And the movie makers too realised this fact in that the bulk of songs were picturised on her in this movie and not on the hero.
Here is a stage song from this movie which is sung by Asha Bhonsle and picturised on Madhubala. The song itself is a song on the state of affairs of the world where it is lamented that God and Godliness wereconspicuous by their absence despite the presence of so many places of worship.
The song is written by Shakeel Badayuni and music is composed by Ghulam Mohammad. This song, in its content is more or less of the same genre as “kitna badal gaya insaan” that was composed one year later.

Song-Bhagwan teri duniya mein insaan nahin hain (Rail Ka Dibba) (1953) Singer- Asha Bhonsle, Lyrics-Shakeel Badayuni, MD-Ghulam Mohammad
Lyrics
Bhagwaan
Bhagwaan
Bhagwaan teri duniyaa mein
Bhagwaan teri duniyaa mein insaan nahin hai
insaan nahin hai
masjid bhi hai mandir bhi hai imaan nahin hai
imaan nahin hai
bhagwaan teri duniyaa mein
Bhagwaan teri duniyaa mein insaan nahin hai
insaan nahin hai
masjid bhi hai mandir bhi hai imaan nahin hai
imaan nahin hai
aapas mein yahaan phoot hai dil sabke judaa hain
daulat jinhe mil jaaye wahi log Khudaa hain
itnaa bhi nahin sochte ham kaun hain kyaa hain
insaan ko
insaan ko insaan ki pahchaan nahin hai
Bhagwaan teri duniyaa mein
Bhagwaan teri duniyaa mein insaan nahin hai
insaan nahin hai
masjid bhi hai mandir bhi hai imaan nahin hain
imaan nahin hain
tu chaahe to har mauj ko toofaan banaa de
sachchaa hai to bigde huye imaan banaa de
in khaaq ke
in khaaq ke
in khaaq ke putlon ko phir insaan banaa de
warnaa main samjhongi tu Bhagwaan nahin hai
Bhagwaan teri duniyaa mein
Bhagwaan teri duniyaa mein insaan nahin hai
insaan nahin hai
masjid bhi hai mandir bhi hai imaan nahin hai
imaan nahin hai

Gulam Mohamed was one of the finest music directors not less than stalwarts like Naushad, Shanker Jaikishien and S D Burman, some to mention of the era but never got the recognition. I was just hearing some songs from Amber and Shirin Farhad. I believe he died a heart broken man.

Indeed Ghulam Mohammad died in penury. Ironically, the movie released after his death was the musical blockbuster “Paakeejah”. If only he had stayed alive to witness the musical success of this movie.
