Naina hain pyaase mere

on:“Aavishkaar” (1973) was a low budget movie with a different (and realistic) story line. Such movies were called “new wave” movies, and later “art” movies and such movies struggled to get released in movie halls.
Few people remember this movie or for that matter its songs, which is a pity, because the songs of this movie are very nice to listen to.
Here is a song from this movie which is sung by Asha Bhonsle. Kapil Kumar is the lyricist and Kanu Roy composed the music. The movie version of the song is just one stanza long and it is picturised on Sharmila Tagore and Rajesh Khanna. The audio version contains the entire song. Here I have included the movie version as well as the audio version of the song.

Song-naina hain pyaase mere (Aavishkaar ) (1973) Singer- Asha Bhonsle, Lyrics-Kapil Kumar, MD- Kanu Roy
nainaa hain pyaase mere,
pyaasaa hai praan meraa
main hoon ek barkhaa ke bin
jaltaa saa din
aashiyaan hai sunsaan meraa
nainaa hain pyaase mere,
pyaasaa hai praan meraa
main hoon ek barkhaa ke bin
jaltaa saa din
main hoon ek barkhaa ke bin
jaltaa saa din
aashiyaan hai sunsaan meraa
man ki hai lagan tan se,
tan kaa hai teerath doojaa
man ki hai lagan tan se,
tan kaa hai teerath doojaa
pyaasi rahi milke unse,
pyaas ko hi maine poojaa
ye hi to hai abhimaan meraa
pyaar poojaa praarthnaa to
ek saath rahnaa chaahe
pyaar poojaa praarthnaa to
ek saath rahnaa chaahe
saath agar saath naa de,
sang aa jaati aahen
ab yahi hai toofaan meraa
nainaa hain pyaase mere,
pyaasaa hai praan meraa
main hoon ek barkhaa ke bin
jaltaa saa din
aashiyaan hai sunsaan meraa

Thanks for the audio version Atul. This film along with the other two that make up Basu Bhattacharya’s trilogy on the then modern-day urban marriage (Anubhav and Griha Pravesh) is generally acknowledged to be amongst his best work. And, of course, Kaka received a well-deserved Filmfare Best Actor Award for it 🙂 There is a recent nicely done review of the film with some lovely screenshots in the attached link. Enjoy.
