Aayi jhoom ke bahaar

Posted on: April 3, 2010

“Insaaniyat” (1955) was the first (and last) time that Dilip Kumar and Dev Anand were cast together in one movie. Dev Anand was (mis)cast as a dacoit wearing a mustache who gets reformed when a girl (Bina Rai) slaps him. 😉

Dev Anand is not only reformed, he starts singing romantic duets with Bina Rai as well. The movie had budgetted for just one leading lady and as a result of that, Dilip Kumar has to sacrifice for the sake of Dev Anand. Such kind of sacrifice was considered an honourable thing to do in Bollywood those days, especially by female actors. There were cases when actors would be seen sacrificing at the drop of a hat when such sacrifice served no purpose (for instance Suraiyya in “Badi Behan” (1949).

Coming to this movie, both Dilip Kumar and Dev Anand were outshone by a chimp who was specially imported for this movie. A chimp outperforming two legends of Bollywood movies, now that does not happen every day.

Well, here is a duet picturised on Bina Rai and Dev Anand. It is sung by Lata and Talat Mehmood. Rajinder Krishan is the lyricist and C Ramchandra composed the music.

Song-Aayi jhoom ke bahaar (Insaaniyat) (1955) Singers-Lata, Talat Mehmood, Lyrics-Rajinder Krishan, MD-C Ramchandra

Lyrics

aayi jhoom ke bahaar
laayi dil ka karaar
dekho pyaar ho gayaa
dekho pyaar ho gayaa
sainyya pahli pahli baar
baaje man ke sitaar
dekho pyaar ho gayaa
dekho pyaar ho gayaa

laage tum sang nain
aaya manwaa ko chain
laage tum sang nain
aaya manwaa ko chain
honge jab sang sang
aane waali hai wo rain
honge jab sang sang
aane waali hai wo rain
aaja bani teri preet
meri nayi nayi haar
dekho pyaar ho gayaa
dekho pyaar ho gayaa

aaja chalen ek saath
aajaa
ho ho ho ho
aaja chalen ek saath
leke haath mein haath
laage tang(?) saara jag
kahin jaan le na baat
laage tang(?) saara jag
kahin jaan le na baat
huaa jab ek baar
kahin chhuptaa hai pyaar
dekho pyaar ho gayaa
dekho pyaar ho gayaa

kabhi toote na preet
teri meri mere meet
kabhi toote na preet
teri meri mere meet
tauba pyaar me bina ye nahin
pyaar ki hai reet
tauba pyaar me bina ye nahin
pyaar ki hai reet
tu hai mujhpe nisaar
main hoon tujh pe nisaar
dekho pyaar ho gayaa
dekho pyaar ho gayaa
aayi jhoom ke bahaar
laayi dil ka karaar
dekho pyaar ho gayaa
dekho pyaar ho gayaa
