Mat bhool arre insaan

In Bollywood movies, most songs are picturised on lead actors, but sometimes songs are picturised on bit actors playing beggars/ mandicants/ sadhus etc who would be shown singing a philosophical song as a leading lady would be shown suffering. This song is one such song. The lady (who is she !) finds her helpless and she is seen arriving at a temple as a last resort, where this song is sung.
Rafi is the singer and Rajinder Krishan is the lyricist. Madan Mohan is the music director. The movie is “Mastaanaa”(1954). This movie had Motilal, Nigar Sultana, Kuldip Kaur,Sunder, Chandrashekhar, Gope etc in lead roles. Looking from this cast, I guess that that the lady shown in the picturisation could be Nigar Sultana. But I could be very wrong too. So as usual, I rely upon my knowledgeable readers to identify the lady as well as the man who lip sync in Rafi’s voice in this song.

Lyrics
mat bhool arre insaan
mat bhool arre insaan
teri neki-badi nahin usase chhupi
sab dekh rahaa bhagwaan
mat bhool arre insaan
mat bhool arre insaan
hai jisne banaayaa mitaaye wahi
hai jisne banaayaa mitaaye wahi
phool-kaanton ko sang-sang khilaaye wahi
phool-kaanton ko sang-sang khilaaye wahi
khel jeewan-maran kaa aaa
khel jeewan-maran kaaa rachaaye wahi
daale maati ke putle mein jaan
mat bhool arre insaan
mat bhool arre insaan
teri neki-badi nahin usase chhupi
sab dekh rahaa bhagwaan
mat bhool arre insaan
mat bhool arre insaan
jo vidhaataa ne likhi use maan le
jo vidhaataa ne likhi use maan le
praan dewe wahi aur wahi praan le
praan dewe wahi aur wahi praan le
tere bas mein hai kyaa aaa
tere bas mein hai kyaa ye zaraa jaan le
tu hai nirbal to wo balwaan
mat bhool arre insaan
mat bhool arre insaan
teri neki-badi nahin usase chhupi
sab dekh rahaa bhagwaan
mat bhool arre insaan
mat bhool arre insaan

Several comments on the song and the film.
- The title of the film is “Mastana” as it appears on all posters of the film as well as what you see when you watch the film. The title used in this blog is Mastaanaa.
- The movie is loosely based on a film by Charlie Chaplin; you can see Motilal imitating Chaplin walk in the title song.
- The sadhu singing the song is Chaman Puri (brother of Amrish Puri and Madan Puri)
