Kahaan tak jafaa husn waalon ki sahte
Posted on: May 23, 2010
I had never heard this song before. And I cannot be blamed either for not having heard this song before. This song is from an old and forgotten film called “Tohfaa” (1947). This film had actors like Rehman,Anuradha(?) , Mishra (?), Nawab (?),Veera (?) etc etc.
The lyricist and music director of this movie are equally obscure. The only well known person among the creators of this song is Mukesh, the singer.
When I listened to this song, I was forced to sit up and take notice ! This is no run of the mill song. This has to be one of the finest ghazals that have even been created in Bollywood movies. Just listen to this ghazal. If you are like me, you will want to listen to this ghazal many times more. What a find this song is !
Saqib Lucknowi is the lyricist, and what a gifted lyricist he must have been. He has come up with a precious gem here. Music is composed by M A Rauf. I need to find out more about him.
Song-Kahaan tak jafaa husn waalon ke sahte (Tohfa) (1947) Singers-Mukesh, Lyrics-Saqib Lucknowi, MD-M A Rauf

kahaan tak jafaa husn waalon ki sahte
kahaan tak jafaa husn waalon ki sahte
jawaani jo rahti to phir ham na rahte

nasheman na jaltaa nishaani to rahti

koyi naqsh aur koyi deewaar samjhaa

Very nice. This was the time when Mukesh was copying Saigal saab I think.
What does “nasheman” mean ?
