It is one of those songs that everyone likes, but few people know the details of the song, apart from the obvious fact about the name of the singer.
Like everyone else, I too was only aware that this song is sung by Lata. This song “aaj ki raat nayaa chaand leke aayi hai” a feel good song that always has the effect of cheering the listeners and this song is doing that for nearly half a century.
This song is from a less known movie called “Shaadi” (1962). This song is written by Rajinder Krishan and music is composed by Chitragupta. Both were masters of their trades and it shows in the song. The joy that the lady feels has been expressed so wonderfully well in the lyrics and the music enhances the effect with its joyous tune.
This song is picturised on Saira Bano, with Manoj Kumar also visible.

I have seen this movie. I don’t know the box office results but movie and most of the songs were ordinary. I don’t think anyone (Dharmender, Manoj Kumar or Saira Bano etc.) made any impact as an actor (except Balraj Sahni and Om Prakash).
This song was good. And there is another song that is also good ……….. “Jaa aur kahin ro shehnai”

I don’t think this movie was a hit, but I always loved this song – it is so full of joy and happiness. Saira Bano also looks so young and pretty in this song, though Manoj is as expressionless as ever (sorry, Manoj fans, but I have never been able to understand his expressionless acting!). Thanks for the song, Atul!
