Atul’s Song A Day- A choice collection of Hindi Film & Non-Film Songs

Main naa jaanoon mere dil ko ye kyaa ho gayaa

Posted on: August 9, 2010

Madan Mohan had composed music for just over 700 movie songs in his career. So far I have posted as many as 127 of these songs in this blog which constitutes 18 % of all Madan Mohan songs. I am sure that with time, I will be able to post many more Madan Mohan songs.

There are many Madan Mohan fans, and bemused321, who is a visitor of this blog, is one of the biggest fans. He has posted many Madan Mohan songs in youtube, and that includes many rare songs which are not available easily.

Here is one such rare song, which I had not heard before.

This song is from “Aashiyaanaa” (1952). It is sung by Lata. Only the audio of this song is available, but one can safely assume that this song is picturised on Nargis in this Nargis-Raj Kapoor starrer movie. Rajinder Krishan is the lyricist.

After listening to this song, I am almost certain that this song is perhaps one of the sweetest songs that has ever been created in Hindi movie. The music, the voice, the lyrics, everything is so sweet that one feels like listening to this song repeatedly without feeling bored.

Here is this beautiful song which I discovered just a few hours ago. I am sure all music lovers will enjoy listening to this song.

Song-Main naa jaanoon mere dil ko ye kyaa ho gayaa(Aashiyaanaa) (1952) Singer-Lata, Lyrics-Rajinder Krishan, MD-Madan Mohan

Lyrics

Main naa jaanoon
main naa jaanoon
mere dil ko ye kyaa ho gayaa
mera dil hai kahaan kho gayaa
main naa jaanoon
main naa jaanoon
mere dil ko ye kyaa ho gayaa
mera dil hai kahaan kho gayaa

ho piyaa
dole re dole jiyaa
dil ka karaar liyaa
haaye re haaye kyaa kiyaa
ho piyaa
dole re dole jiyaa
dil ka karaar liyaa
haaye re haaye kyaa kiyaa
main naa jaanoon
main naa jaanoon
mere dil ko ye kyaa ho gayaa
mera dil hai kahaan kho gayaa

aaja re
aankhon mein chhaa ja re
dil ko hansaa jaa re
apna banaa jaa re
aaja re
aankhon mein chhaa ja re
dil ko hansaa jaa re
apna banaa jaa re
main naa jaanoon
main naa jaanoon
mere dil ko ye kyaa ho gayaa
mera dil hai kahaan kho gayaa

kyaa milaa pyaar ka mujhe silaa
dil ka naa phool khilaa
tujhse hai meraa gilaa
kyaa milaa pyaar ka mujhe silaa
dil ka naa phool khilaa
tujhse hai meraa gilaa
main naa jaanoon
main naa jaanoon
mere dil ko ye kyaa ho gayaa
mera dil hai kahaan kho gayaa
main naa jaanoon
main naa jaanoon
mere dil ko ye kyaa ho gayaa
mera dil hai kahaan kho gayaa

Hello Atul: This is indeed a lovely song in young Lata Mangeshkar’s beautiful voice. After someone had uploaded the original video on YouTube, I was about to delete this upload, but then that video disappeared from YouTube. I had imagined this song to be picturized on Nargis, but I was disappointed to see that it was actually picturized on some obscure actress.

May I suggest to you a lovely Madan Mohan-Asha Bhosle combo from a 1954 film Ilzaam that I just saw on YouTube? It is called “Kehti hai ye thandi hawa.” Unfortunately the video clip is only 24-sec long but there is also a complete audio upload (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ul267AJNYzY).

Who is this ‘obscure’ actress ? Any idea please. I am desperately looking for this information since long.

Comparatively, I have always been mesmerized more by ‘The Other Madan Mohan’ sahab of 50s than the typical MM of later period … simply because the Other MM was more for the masses than the classes, & the typical aristocratic MM other way round.

Ashiana – 1952 had this beauty for the masses .. ”main na jaanu, mere dil ko ye kya ho gaya …”. The rhythm – the beats,.. & the vocals superbly riding over them, create a feet tapping melody.
How silently & intelligently the legend has conjoined the mix of Arabian & the Indian folk music in each of the interlude !!
