Muhabbat cheez hai kyaa muhabbat kar ke dekhenge

In Hindi movies, we often have hero teasing the girl and the girl, after initial resentment falls for the guy, which to my mind is not really how it happens in real life.
Here is a teasing song where the roles are reversed. Here it is the girl who is teasing the hero in a bid to woo him, and the guy is not at all amused for much of the song, only to start responding to her advances towards the end of the song.
This song is sung by Asha Bhonsle and it is picturised on Mumtaz, Vishwajeet and others. Aziz Kashmiri is the lyricist and O P Nayyar is the music director. The movie is “Ye Raat Phir Naa Aayegi” (1966).
song-Muhabbat cheez hai kyaa (Ye Raat Phir Naa Aayegi) (1966) Singer-Asha Bhonsle, Lyrics-Aziz Kashmiri, MD-O P Nayyar
Lyrics
sitamgar tumse ummeende karam
aaj ye jinhen hogi
hamen to dekhna ye hai
ke tu jaalim kahaan tak hai
muhabbat cheez hai kyaa
muhabbat karke dekhenge
muhabbat cheez hai kyaa
muhabbat karke dekhenge
qazaa kahte hain kisko
kisi par mar ke dekhenge
muhabbat cheez hai kyaa
badaa hi khoobsoorat
dil se waadaa kar liyaa hamne
ke tum par jaan dene kaa
iraadaa kar liyaa hamne
ke tum par jaan dene kaa
iraadaa kar liyaa hamne
kahaan hai pyaar ki sooli
kahaan hai pyaar ki sooli
ye sooli chadh ke dekhenge
qazaa kahte hain kisko
kisi par mar ke dekhenge
muhabbat cheez hai kyaa
tumhaare dar pe dil apnaa
muhabbat kaa sawaali hai
nasheeli aankh se dekho
suraahi dil ki khaali hai
tumhaare dar pe dil apnaa
muhabbat kaa sawaali hai
nasheeli aankh se dekho
suraahi dil ki khaali hai
chhalak jaati hai kaise
chhalak jaati hai kaise
suraahi bhar ke dekhenge
qazaa kahte hain kisko
kisi par mar ke dekhenge
muhabbat cheez hai kyaa
liyaa jaayegaa kab tak
jaaneman yoon imtahaan apnaa
sunaa do muskuraa kar
faislaa kuchh meharbaan apnaa
sunaa do muskuraa kar
faislaa kuchh meharbaan apnaa
tumhaare faisle par
tumhaare faisle par
khushi se mar ke dekhenge
muhabbat cheez hai kyaa
muhabbat karke dekhenge
qazaa kahte hain kisko
kisi par mar ke dekhenge
muhabbat cheez hai kyaa

The actor’s name is Biswajeet and not Vishwajeet

In Bangla, “V” is pronounced as “B”, otherwise there is no difference in the name.

And the word Bangla itself comes from the Sanskrit Vanga or Vangala 🙂
