Janam janam ka saath hai nibhaane ko

In India, making tall promises is not the sole preserve of politicians alone. Hindi movie heroes too are known to make tall tall promises to their beloved in matters of heart. They claim that their love is eternal and it spans across many births, not just the present birth.
Here is one such “eternal love” song from “Tumse Achchaa Kaun hai”. Here Shammi Kapoor is seen taking oath of “janam janam ka saath” with Babita. Babita, of all people ? She was acting in romantic roles opposite Shammi Kapoor as well as Shashi Kapoor aand she was soon to become their daughter in law as she married their nephew, viz Randhir Kapoor.
It is this fact that does not allow me to fully or even partially allow to enjoy the picturisation of this song.
Of course one can not fault the singing of Rafi. He sounds as passionate and as enthusiastic as he ever sounded while singing for Shammi Kapoor.Hasrat Jaiputri is the lyricist and Shankar Jaikishan composed the music.

As you said, the song is great, but Shammi and Babita? As I recall, didn’t Shashi act with Neetu Singh in Deewaar? I seem to remember reading somewhere that Shashi actually felt uncomfortable during the filming, knowing that she was to marry Rishi soon. I am wondering how Babita and Neetu felt during such times! Oh well, films and their people!

Shashi acted with two Kapoor bahu, and they all looked quite comfortable 🙂

It is just an act.
Behind the lovey-dovey eyes, which heroines are expected to make at their male co-stars, there are no genuine feelings.
With the experience of lots of films behind them, actresses become seasoned and purely professional.
They do not let real emotions from their personal lives affect their filmy emotions under the camera.
They can switch-on and switch-off emotions at will.
