I am not very good in remembering important dates viz birthdays etc, unless it happens to be my own . I remember my daughter’s birthday too because her countdown for the next birthday is an ongoing process.There are occasions when I have forgotten the birthday of my wife ( Disclaimer- Do not try it at home with your wife). In this blog, the only important days I remember are the obvious ones viz important natioanal holidays or important Indian festivals. On those days, I post songs relevant to those occasions.
As for the bithdays of singers/ lyricists/ music directors, I think I need to be more pro active. I need to find out in advance about the coming birthday. Today, when I picked up the morning newspaper, then I found ou that today was Asha Bhonsle’s bithday. And that made me change the songs that I was planning to post today. Today, I have hurriedly got hold of four Asha Bhonsle songs in order to post them on her birthday. I have already posted three of them, and here is the fourth Asha Bhonsle song.
This song is from “Chor Machaaye Shor” (1974). This is a popular song “Aagre se ghaaghroo mangaa de rasiyaa”. It is a roadside tamasha” song where Shashi Kapoor and Mumtaz join bystanders in watching a street dance. There, Shashi Kapoor imagines that it is Mumtaz who is dancing.
And Mumtaz, dressed in her customary Netherland’s colour, is as gorgeous as ever.
This song is written and composed by Ravindra Jain.
This movie, which was a musical blockbuster, gave a new boost to Shashi Kapoor’s career and Mumtaz on the other hand soon called it a day.
So here is this wonderful song, which is one of the last songs to be picturised on Mumtaz.
And happy 77th birthday to Asha Bhonsle.

When I read the title I confused it with one of Lata’s earliest Hindi songs,
Aagre se ghagro mangwa do mohe dewerjee, tore payain paroon (1947 or so)
which I found on Surjit Singh’s site. You might post that one too one day I hope!

What joy. We love Mumtaz in her sunburst Netherlands colors. And she wears it better than the Netherlanders. Shashi’s taken with her and we with him.
