O meri jaan maine kahaa

In this blog, most of the songs that I post are from the era prior to 1970. In reality, I grew up as a Hindi movie music listener from late 1960s and entire 1970s, and in those days I liked new songs, which meant songs from 1968 onwards.
Had my choice of songs remained unchaged then this blog would have seen lots and lots of songs from 1970. But as things stand, the number of songs from 1970 are quite less in this blog. I am sub- consciously saving them for the last, it would seem to me, the way some school kids save the most well prepared answer for the last hour of the exam (only to run out of time).
The music director who had taken the Hindi movie by storm those days was R D Burman. His name was enough to assure people that the music of the movie was going to be rollicking in nature. And the icing on the cake was R D Burman’s singing. His voice was perfect for singing party songs. And he wisely used his voice sparingly, and that ensured that R D Burman’s voice always held its novelty value till the end.
Here is a fantastic R D Burman composition from “The Train” (1970). It is a cabarat song picturised in a party. The song is sung by R D Burman and Asha Bhonsle. This is a Helen song, and Helen lip syncs in Asha Bhosle’s voice. Any idea who is the man lip syncing in R D Burman’s voice ?
The song is written by Anand Bakshi.

Lyrics
o meri jaan maine kahaa
o meri jaan toone sunaa
o meri jaan maine kahaa
o meri jaan toone sunaa
dil ne dil se kyaa kahaa
meri meri meri meri meri
o meri jaan maine kahaa
o meri jaan toone sunaa
o meri jaan maine kahaa
o meri jaan toone sunaa
dil ne dil se kyaa kahaa
baaton baaton mein
karti hoon main kamaal
ae ae ae ae ae ae ae
bas jaati hoon main dil mein
ban ke khayaal aa aa
taru ru ru
aankhon aankhon mein
deti hoon main jawaab
ae ae ae ae ae ae ae
aankhon aankhon mein
karti hoon main sawaal
o meri jaan maine kahaa
o meri jaan toone sunaa
o meri jaan maine kahaa
o meri jaan toone sunaa
dil ne dil se kyaa kahaa
main bhi thodi si
rahti hoon beqaraar
ae ae ae ae ae ae ae
tu bhi thodaa saa
lagtaa hai beqaraar
tara ru ru
teri meri to haalat hai ek si
ae ae ae ae ae ae ae ae
kyun naa aapas mein ham donon
kar len pyaar
o meri jaan maine kahaa
o meri jaan toone sunaa
o meri jaan maine kahaa
o meri jaan toone sunaa
dil ne dil se kyaa kahaa
dadudada
lalalala
dadadada
lalalallala
dilkash baaten haseen mehfil dil jawaan
ae ae ae ae ae ae ae
aisi raaten jawaani mein phir kahaan
tara ra ra ra
mere honthon pe afsaanaa pyaar kaa
ae ae ae ae ae ae ae
tere lab pe mohabbat ki daastaan
o meri jaan maine kahaa
o meri jaan tuune sunaa
o meri jaan maine kahaa
o meri jaan tuune sunaa
dil se dil ne kyaa kahaa
meri meri meri meri meri
o meri jaan maine kahaa
o meri jaan tuune sunaa
o meri jaan maine kahaa
o meri jaan tuune sunaa
are dil ne dil se kyaa kahaa

The man who lip synced in R. D. Burman’s voice onscreen, was Chintu Ranjan, dancing with Helen !
