“Picnic” was a very popular word in India in 1960s and 1970s. People, who could afford it used to go to some far off places during weekend or holidays to relax. They would play some games there, have their meals their and then they would come back. This in short was what was a picnic.
Hindi movies of those days too had picnic scenes. And being Hindi movies, we even have a few picnic songs in them. And in case one wants to dig deeper, there was one movie that was actually called “Picnic”.
The song under discussion is a picnic song though it is not from the movie called “Picnic”, rather it is a movie called “Main Sundar Hoon” (1971). This is a movie which is full of awesome songs. This movie came when I was in my most impressionable stage (8-10 years old) and all the songs of this movie made deep impression on me. And curiously,I was not aware at that time that the songs I liked so much those days was from this movie called “Main Sundar Hoon” (1971). It is only when I started this blog and began to post songs that I came to know that all these great songs that I so loved to listen to were from this movie.
I have so far discussed as many as four songs from this movie, viz. Aaj main jawaan ho gayi hoon , Do mastaane do deewaane, Mujhe thand lag rahi hai and Naach meri jaan fatafaat.
Here is this picnic song from “Main Sundar Hoon” (1971). Just like the other songs, I was not aware that this song was from this movie. I became aware of this fact only because of the farmaish for this song.
So here is this cute song from “Main Sundar Hoon” (1971) where Leena Chandawarkar goes on a picnic with her friends and her friends want to know about her love life. Leena Chandawarkar refuses to reveal his name to her friends, since she is afraid that her friends will tell others.
This song is sung by Lata. Anand Bakshi is the lyricist and music is composed by Shankar Jaikishan.
