Balmaa anaadi man bhaaye

These days I do not have the patience to sit through a Hindi movie. I instead watch the songs and try to guess the plot from the songs.
I watched (and discussed) a song of “Bahurani” (1963) yesterday and I am doing the same with another song of this movie today. After watching these two songs, I think I have got the basic plot of this movie. Mala Sinha gets married to Guru Dutt, who is mentally retarded and has the mental age of a pre teen kid (that makes him like me 😀 ). He gets married to Mala Sinha, but still behaves like a kid and is not intersted in his wife. Now it is here where I would differ from Guru Dutt, though. 😀
In the song that I discussed yesterday, it is the suhaag raat of the couple but Guru Dutt is interested in getting his slepp.
Now in this song, he comes up to Mala Sinha, and enquires her about love. What is this thing called love, he asks him like a retard that he plays in this movie. And Mala Sinha, hopeful that he is finally showing signs of growing up, goes up to a sitar and sings this song.
This song is a fantastic semi classical song sung by Lata. Sahir Ludhianvi has written the simple looking but extremely effective lyrics. C Ramchandra has composed this lovely song, based on Raag Hemant, which despite its classical base, sounds so appealing and hummable even to untrained ears.
This song is a timeless classic. Here is this wonderful song from “Bahurani” (1963). Enjoy !
