Nirupa Roy is known among movie watchers as the actress playing long suffering mother of Amitabh Bachchan in several movies of 1970s. But that is not how she began her career. She was a lead actress in hindi movies for much of 1950s and 1960s, before age caught up with her and she began playing those Maa roles.
I in fact have already discussed several songs picturised on Nirupa Roy where she played lead roles.
Here is a song from “Kangan” (1959). In this movie she plays the wife of Ashok Kumar. Things are looking gloomy for Asho Kumar and he is naturally downbeat. In this song, Nirupa Roy comforts are and tries to cheer him up.
This song is sung by Lata.Rajinder Krishan is the lyricist. The music may sound like Madan Mohan’s but in reality, it is Chitragupta’s composition.
