Atul’s Song A Day- A choice collection of Hindi Film & Non-Film Songs

Daaman ko haath se wo chhudaakar chale gaye

Posted on: November 13, 2010

I have discussed as many as 37 songs composed by Sajjad Hussain in Hindi movies. Finding the remaining songs composed by him (he composed about 100 such songs) is proving to be a tall order, as these songs are rare songs, which are not easy to find.

Here is one more song composed by Sajjad Hussain. This rare song is from a forgotten movie called “Qasam” (1947). It is sung by a very young Geeta Roy (later Geeta Dutt) and the song is written by Anjum Pilibhiti.

The lyrics are quite innovative. There may be some inaccuracies in the lyrics that I have noted down. I request listeners with keener ears to point out the errors/ missing words so that I may be able to make the necessary corrections wherever applicable.

song-Daaman ko haath se wo chhudaakar chale gaye (Qasam) (1947) Singer- Geeta Dutt, Lyrics- Anjum Pilibhiti, MD-Sajjad Hussain

Lyrics

daaman ko haath se wo chhudaakar chale gaye
daaman ko haath se wo chhudaakar chale gaye
duniyaa meri ummeedon ki dhaa kar chale gaye

ansoo hazaar aye aur a kar chal gaye
daaman ko haath se wo chhudaakar chale gaye

Khwaja Saab,

Aslaam aile qum

I have been following your comments and contributions with respect and interest for some days now, but have not been able to write to you due to time constraints.

Atul ji had expressed it already in his responses, still I would like to repeat that we are so glad that you have become associated with this blog. This blog is more than just a collection of old songs from Hindi/Urdu films. It is turning out to be more of a project to search for, gather and bring exposure to the film music that is obscure and considered lost by many. Through the collaborative efforts of like minded souls connected to this blog, we are trying to push forward this effort, and continue to enhance and improve this collection to the extent possible.

One key element that all contributors to this blog are concerned about, is the authenticity and completeness of information, and almost all posts are pretty thoroughly researched before being posted. Our experience with other websites has convinced us that almost no other web site is really serious about researching and confirming the information before publishing it, going by the number of glaring errors of information one comes across on the internet. To that extent, your association and your inputs are really valuable, for you have the authentic first hand information and material that is absolutely relevant to this effort.

Atul ji is the driving force behind this blog. He and Raja ji (Raja Swaminathan) are the originators of this blog, and over time, we have singularly interested folks that have become associated and are contributing to this blog. Arun ji Deshmukh (our in-house encyclopedia of information on old films), Greta Memsaab, Prakashchandra ji, Lalitha ji, Peevesie’s Mom ji, Nahm ji, AK ji, Boodhemiyan ji, Krishna Pillalmaari ji, Sadanand Kamath ji, Derubaala ji, Atif Bhai, Santosh Ojha ji. . . . I am sure there are more people connected whom I am not able to recall right away.

Again, really appreciate your help in adding rare and unavailable songs, especially the compositions by Sajjaad Hussain Saab. Plus your comments that contain valuable and correct information from the early years of the film industry.

Look forward to your continued association and contributions on this wonderful journey of music together.

Allaah Hafiz
and regards

Sudhir
