Ho dheere dheere chadh gayaa nadi mein paani

“Aagosh” (1953), a forgotten movie by now, had Nasir Khan, Nutan and Shakila.
Here is a song from this movie. It is a duet sung by Lata and Hemant Kumar. The picturisation is not very clear but as far as my eyes can detect, the two shadows visible in the picturisation seem like none other than Nasir Khan and Nutan themselves.
And this song is picturised on a boat, as far as I can see.
So here is this delightful boat song from “Aagosh” (1953). This song is written by Shailendra. Music director is Roshan, and this song is the 100th Roshan composition for this blog ! Yes, that makes this song a special song for this blog.
Song-Ho dheere dheere chadh gayaa nadi mein paani (Aagosh) (1953) Singer-Lata, Hemant Kumar, Lyrics-Shailendra, MD-Roshan
Lyrics
ho ho dheere dheere
chadh gayaa nadi mein paani
ho ho dheere dheere
chadh gayaa nadi mein paani
ho ho dheere dheere
ho ho
koi kahey toofaan uthaa,
koi kahey re aayi jawaani
dheere dheere
chadh gayaa nadi mein paani
ho ho dheere dheere
dil mein baitha
koi dil ki dhadkan ginta jaaye,
dhadkan ginta jaaye
mere man ke bhed churaakar
apne bhed chhupaaye,
apne bhed chhupaaye
ho ho
jyon jyon meri preet badhe
main hoti jaaun deewaani
dheere dheere
chadh gayaa nadi mein paani
ho ho dheere dheere
uthti girti lehren bolen
aao saath hamaare,
aao saath hamaare
aanewaali raat ka pehla taara kare ishaare,
taara kare ishaare
ho ho
man ki batiyaan geet bani
geeton mein aayi rawaani
dheere dheere
chadh gayaa nadi mein paani
ho ho dheere dheere
bachpan mein hum kar baithe
ek chhoti si naadaani,
chhoti si naadaani
lekin aaj usi ke dum se
hai zindagi suhaani,
hai zindagi suhaani
ho ho
do dil kya mil gaye ke aage badhti jaaye kahaani
dheere dheere
chadh gayaa nadi mein paani
ho ho dheere dheere
chadh gayaa nadi mein paani
ho ho dheere dheere

Heard it for first time . Liked it very much.
The beauty of this song is in it’s wordings.
Shailendera is very poetic in comparing age, rather youthfulness, with the flowing river.
The best part of his this poetry is “dheere dheere chad gaya nadi mein paani” to explain that when you are young and in love no body can stop you in whatever you want to do.

Indeed this song (and most memorable songs for that matter) owes a lot to its lyrics.
