December 11 is the birthday of Dilip Kumar. I take this opportunity to discuss a few songs picturised on Dilip Kumar.
When we talk of songs picturised on Dilip Kumar (or for that matter most other actors), the songs are usually sung by some playback singer and the actor only lip syncs it. Dilip Kumar has lip synced in the voices of many singers, viz. Mukesh, Talat Mehmood, Rafi, Mahendra Kapoor, Kishore Kumar etc. But what is not known to many people is that he himself could sing also. By singing, I do not mean uttering a few words in the song and getting credited with “singing” it. By singing, I mean singing a proper song.
“Musaafir” (1957) is a movie that had Dilip Kumar, Usha Kiran, Kishore Kumar etc in it. In this movie, there is a duet song picturised on Dilip Kumar and Usha Kiran. Lata sings for Usha Kiran, whereas Dilip Kumar sings for himself. And Dilip Saab has done a surprisingly competent job in this song that required him to sing in this song that is quite intricate, being a semi classical song.
The song is written by Shailendra and music is composed by Salil Chaudhary.
On the occasion of Dilip Kumar’s birthday on 11 th December, here is this very special song, sung by Dilip Kumar (along with Lata) from the movie “Musaafir” (1957).

Thahn you very much for the lyrics and confirming the fact that Dilipkumar has sung it. Dilipji has done a wonderful job, soulful singing by both and soulful music. I searched for the lyrics a lot and finally could find it here. I know where I need to search for info an any search 🙂

Just happened to listen to this song today. What a beautiful rendition by Dilip saab. You’d expect nothing less from Lata of course. 🙂

Dilip Sab has sung this song with Lataji, Wonderful. This fact was not known to me till today, though many a times I might have heard it. Your blog is very informative and well researched. I appreciate your sincerity,devotion and labour of love.
