Munna Badaa Pyaaraa Ammi Ka Dulaaraa
Posted on: December 22, 2010
It is one occasion that comes at least once evey month for this blog. And that occasion is here again. Yes, this is the occasion when this blog completes a century of songs.
This song is the 3400th song of this blog. This 34th century also happens to be the fastest century of them all. It has come in 15 days, beating the previous record of 16 days (which has been achieved several times in the past).
During this century, I concentrated on posting songs of those artists who are under represented, viz those who have less than 100 songs in this blog. As a result, now artists like Shamshad Begam, Suraiyya, Hemant Kumar, Suman Kalyanpur, Mahendra Kapoor, Ghulam Mohammad, Anil Biswas etc are getting more representation in this blog and they will continue to do so till they have individual centuries of their own in this blog.
This 3400th song is one that was lying there with me for several months and I was looking for an appropriate opportunity to post it. This song is a much loved song from a lesser known movie. The movie is “Musaafir” (1957) and the song is the great sentimental favourites of all. This song is “Munna bada pyaara Ammi ka dulaaraa”. This delightful song is picturised on Nirupa Roy (an expectant would be mother ) and Kishore Kumar, playing his devar (brother in law) sings this song. In this song, Kishore Kumar imagines how the kid would behave once he is born.
Shailendra has come up with an awesome song. such imagination, and such powers of expressing himself in such simple words ! And the music of Salil Chaudhary is literally music to the ears always. Salil Chaudhary is also among the list of artists who deserve to have his own century in this blog.
Here is this wonderful song as the 3400th song of this blog.
With holidays and all (for the two ladies in my life, if not for me), I will be able to post at a lesser rate for the next couple of weeks. After that I will resume my usual rate of posting of songs.
And I take this opportunity to thank all my well wishers who continued support and encouragement has enabled me to keep going for over two years. Hopefully this musical journey of exploring songs together we continue in future as well.
song-Munna badaa pyaaraa (Musaafir) (1957) Singer-Kishore Kumar, Lyrics-Shailendra, MD-Salil Chaudhary

lalalalalala
lalalalalalala
lalalalallaa
munnaa badaa pyaaraa, ammi kaa dulaaraa
munnaa badaa pyaaraa, ammi kaa dulaaraa
koi kahe chaand, koi aankh ka taaraa
koi kahe chaand, koi aankh ka taaraa
hanse to bhalaa lage, roye to bhalaa lage
ammi ko uske binaa kuchh bhi achchhaa na lage
hanse to bhalaa lage, roye to bhalaa lage
ammi ko uske binaa kuchh bhi achchhaa na lage
jiyo mere laal, jiyo mere laal
tumko lage meri umar jiyo mere laal
munnaa badaa pyaaraa, ammi kaa dulaaraa
munnaa badaa pyaaraa, ammi kaa dulaaraa
koi kahe chaand, koi aankh ka taaraa
ik din wo maan se bolaa kyun phoonkti hai choolhaa
ik din wo maan se bolaa kyun phoonkti hai choolhaa
kyun naa rotiyon kaa ped ham lagaa len
aam toden roti toden roti-aam khaa len
kyun naa rotiyon kaa ped ham lagaa len
aam toden roti toden roti-aam khaa len
kaahe kare roz-roz tu ye jhamelaa
ammi ko aayi hansi, hanske wo kahne lagi
laal mehnat ke binaa roti kis ghar mein paki
jiyo mere laal, jiyo mere laal
o jiyo jiyo jiyo jiyo jiyo mere laal
munnaa badaa pyaaraa, ammi kaa dulaaraa
munnaa badaa pyaaraa, ammi kaa dulaaraa
dekhaa konaa konaa, sab thhey saans kheenche
bistar ke neeche, kursiyon ke peechhe
dekhaa konaa konaa, sab thhey saans kheenche
kahaan gayaa kaise gayaa sab thhey pareshaan
saaraa jag dhoondh thake, kahin munnaa na milaa
milaa to pyaar bhari maan ki aankhon mein milaa
saaraa jag dhoondh thake, kahin munnaa na milaa
milaa to pyaar bhari maan ki aankhon mein milaa
jiyo mere laal, jiyo mere laal
o tumko lage meri umar jiyo mere laal
munnaa badaa pyaaraa, ammi kaa dulaaraa
munnaa badaa pyaaraa, ammi kaa dulaaraa
koi kahe chaand, koi aankh ka taaraa
koi kahe chaand, koi aankh ka taaraa

First of all, congrats, Atul, for getting to the 3400 landmark.
Sorry, I’ve not been here in the last few weeks as I was travelling. Am back now, so I should be more regular.
I have always liked this song a lot. Thanks for posting it.
Btw, Musafir was not that obscure a movie. I have heard it being mentioned off and on, esp in the context of being Hrishida’s debut directorial venture. Story-wise, it was a different sort of movie – many stories in one. I remember seeing it long back on Doordarshan (one of those Sunday evening movies).

Never watched this film … but ever since I listened to this song many years back, I could not forget this and when I noticed it in one of the mp3 compilations of Kishore by saregama, got it for this special song…

The last stanza is not completed in the movie and the song is left intentionally unfinished (to suit the storyline), but I wonder if Shailendra actually wrote the complete stanza. If anyone has the lyrics for the last stanza, please post. Here’s part of the lyrics:
Jab saanjh muskuraaye
Pashchim me rang udaaye
Munne ko leke ammi
Darwaaze pe aa jaaye
Aate hoge baba
Munne ki mithai
Laate hoge baba…

Thanks a lot. I am sure we will be able to see many more centuries of songs in the coming days as long as there are great songs left over. And it is obvious that there are thousands of great songs still left to be discussed.
