Atul’s Song A Day- A choice collection of Hindi Film & Non-Film Songs

Baansuriyaa phir se bajaao O Kaanhaa

Posted on: December 22, 2010

In Hindi movies, we have several songs that allude to Lord Krishna and his baansuri (flute). I wonder why I did not have a category for such songs. Indeed there are so many songs of this category that I should have thought of it. Now I have finally opened a “Baansuri” category and hopefully this will cover most songs of this genre.

Here is a “baansuri” song from “Taj”(1956). This movie had vitrually the same team as that for “Naagin” (1954) including the star cast and the music team. The makers opf this movie were obviously hoping to replicate the success of “Naagin” (1954) by doing that. To show their “originality” from “Naagin” (1954), they had replaced “been” with “baansuri”. 😀

Here is this song from “Taj” (1956). It is sung by Lata and Hemant Kumar. Rajinder Krishan is the lyricist and Hemant Kumar is thre music director. Though only audio of this song is available here, the song was obviously picturised on Vyjyantimala and Pradeep Kumar.
PS-Now that I have been able to locate the video, I have provided a video link as well.

baansuriyaa phir se bajaao,
Kaanhaa

ja ri natkhat gwaalin kii chhori
main na bajaaungaa ye baans ki pori
ja ri natkhat gwaalin kii chhori

baansuriyaa phir se bajaao,
Kaanhaa
baansuriyaa phir se bajaao

Kaanhaa teri murli mein Raadhaa ki jaan hai
Raadhaa tu hi to meri bansi ki taan hai
kaanhaa teri murli mein raadhaa kii jaan hai
Raadhaa tuu hi to merii bansii kii taan hai
honthon se murli lagaao,
Kaanhaa
baansuriyaa
baansuriyaa phir se bajaao,
Kaanhaa
baansuriyaa phir se bajaao,
jaa jaa na hamko sataao,
Raadhaa
jaa jaa na hamko sataao
