I have discussed as many as nine songs from “Baiju Baawraa” (1952) but this movie still has several other songs that I have yet to discuss.
Here is one such song. I in fact was not even aware of the existence of this song.
The picturisation of this song shows a young Baiju Baawraa (played by Master Ratan) and his father singing this on the streets before they are prevented from singing by the henchmen of Tansen (the court singer of emperor Akbar).
As mentioned above, I was not aware of this song, and even now I am not very clear about the details of this song. Apparently this song is sung by Rafi (for the actor playing Baiju Baawra’s father) and Hridaynath Mangeshkar (for the young kid playing young Baiju Baawraa) though I cannot vouch for the veracity of all these informations. I request my knowledgeable readers to provide information about the actors and singers of this song.
I am clear about my facts about the lyricist and the music director though. Shakeel Badayuni is the lyricist and Naushad composed the music of this song.
Saancho tero naam Ram
saancho tero naam
saancho tero naam Ram
saancho tero naam
saancho tero naam Ram
saancho tero naam
jhoothhe jag ke kaam Ram
saancho tero naam
kyaa leke aaye thhe jag mein
saancho tero naam Ram
saancho tero naam
kyaa leke tum jaaoge
jhoothhe jag ke kaam Ram
saancho tero naam
mutthi baandh ke aaye thhe

aur haath pasaare jaaoge
jhoothho hai ye dhaam Ram
saancho tero naam
saancho tero naam Ram
saancho tero naam
jhoothhe jag ke kaam Ram
saancho tero naam
saancho tero naam Ram
saancho tero naam
jhoothhe jag se kaam Ram
saancho tero naam
saancho tero naam Ram
saancho tero naam
jhoothhe jag se kaam Ram
saancho tero naam
I tried to locate more information on this song, but it seems that this song was never released on a record, not even in the LP for Baiju Bawra.
Movie credits lists only the following playback singers:
– DV Paluskar
– Ustad Amir Khan
– Lata Mangeshkar
– Mohammed Rafi
– Shamshad Begum
– Others
Wish they had specified this “Others”.
Interesting side note. The bearded character in the start of this video, one who challenges the royal soldiers to stop the bhajan singing group, is none other than the famous character actor Radhakishan. He has played many a memorable roles in the 40s, 50s, and 60s.
