Bahe ankhiyon se dhaar
Posted on: February 7, 2011
I have mentioned it several times that I keep stumbling upon unheard of gems almost on a regular basis.
It is not all that difficult, if you enjoy searching for old songs of youtube etc. Other music lovers also keep coming across such gems. A few hours ago, Raja came across one such song and he brought that song to my notice.
When I listened to that song, I loved it from the very first time itself. It is indeed a “love in first hearing” kind of a song, as Raja would put it.
Here is this song from “Ham Log” (1951). This song is sung by Lata and it is picturised on Shyama in the movie. But the picturisation is hardly one minute long and does no justice to the song. So I have only included the audio of this song which contains the whole song.
Here is this delightful song from “Ham Log” (1951). It is written by Uddav Kumar. Music is composed by Roshan.

Song-Bahe ankhiyon se dhaar (Ham Log) (1951) Singer-Lata, Lyrics-Uddhav Kumar, MD-Roshan
Lyrics
bahe ankhiyon se dhaar
jiyaa meraa beqaraar
suno suno dildaar
jaaoge kahaan
dil tod ke
dil tod ke
bahe ankhiyon se dhaar
jiyaa meraa beqaraar
suno suno dildaar
jaaoge kahaan
dil tod ke
dil tod ke
o saathi meri taqdeer ke
tumhen kaise dikhaaun dil cheer ke
o saathi meri taqdeer ke
tumhen kaise dikhaaun dil cheer ke
meraa pahlaa-pahlaa pyaar
meri pahli-pahli haar
suno suno dildaar
jaaoge kahaan
dil tod ke
dil tod ke
meri duniyaa to hai barbaad hi
lete jaao tum apni yaad bhi
meri duniyaa to hai barbaad hi
lete jaao tum apni yaad bhi
liye ansuon ke haar
karoon tumse pukaar
suno suno dildaar
jaaoge kahaan
dil tod ke
dil tod ke
jab nazren kisi ko na paayengi
mose ratiyaan guzaari na jaayengi
leke dil mein intazaar
kaise beetegi bahaar
suno suno dildaar
jaaoge kahaan
dil tod ke
dil tod ke
bahe ankhiyon se dhaar
jiyaa meraa beqaraar
suno suno dildaar
jaaoge kahaan
dil tod ke
dil tod ke

Wow, that was quick!
Thanks for posting this so quickly, Atul.
Isn’t this just lovely? I too fell in love with it the first time I heard it yesterday.
Actually I was watching a video of Shammi Kapoor yesterday and he said he was always very fond of music. One day he was singing this song (to himself) on a flight and he heard somebody singing the song back to him , very beautifully. He was totally taken aback. It was the person sitting in front of him. So he peered in front, and it turned out to be Lata Mangeshkar!
He was absolutely thrilled. The rest of the flight they kept on singing songs, a lot of old, obscure songs that nobody else would have heard of. Lovely story!
The moment I saw this, I immediately wanted to hear the song. And I am so happy I did. 🙂

It is a lovely story. I think I should incorporate this story in the write up when I find time.
