Though Suraiyya sang majority of her songs for herself, she famously did playback singing for Mehtab during early 1940s, when Mehtab was 17-18 years of age and Suraiyya herself was barely 13-14.
Here is an absolutely delightful song sung by Suraiyya for Mehtab. The song is from “Sanjog”(1943). D N Madhok is the lyricist and Naushad is the music director. What lilting folk music based song it is ! A listener can feel the joy and the sense of anticipation that the singer/actor convey through their voice/acting in this song.
The song itself is a priceless gem from the annals of Hindi movies and I have seen this song being eagerly searched for by music lovers in some forums.
