Here is the fourth and final song from “Sanjog”(1972) to appear in the blog. This song is sung by Rafi. Anand Bakshi is the lyricist. Music is composed by R D Burman.

The song is lip synced by Johny Walker (with Chorus) as a qawwaali song. This movie also had a song where Johny Walker lip synced in Kishore Kumar’s voice. So this song is a quiz master’s delight. Which movie had Johny Walker lip syncing two songs in two different voices ? The answer is “Sanjog”(1972).

With this song, “Sanjog”(1972) joins the list of movies that have all their songs covered in the blog. Incidentally, “Sanjog”(1943) and “Sanjog”(1961) have already been YIPPEED in the past. There was another movie with the same title that was released in 1980s, but that movie has not yet made its debut in the blog.

Here is the third song from “Sanjog”(1972) to appear in the blog. This song is sung by Asha Bhonsle and Lata. Anand Bakshi is the lyricist. music is composed by R D Burman.

The song is picturised on Aruna Irani and Mala Sinha who play wife and sautan as one can make out from the song. This song is a verbal duel viz. as a “tu tu main main” nok-jhonk song between the two. I musy say that I have watched/ heard a song like this for the first time ina Hindi movie. 🙂 This song is quite like the forerunner of the present day TV serial. 🙂

Song-Man mandir mein preet ka dera…ye jhoothhi baat hai (Sanjog)(1972) Singers-Asha Bhonsle, Lata, Lyrics-Anand Bakshi, MD-R D Burman

I wanted to write a post to this song as a Tribute to Mehmood on his death anniversay on 23rd July but I missed the date somehow.

This qawwali is special on many counts. First of all it is a composed by Madan Mohan and written by Rajendra Krishan. The film is Sanjog (1961). It is a marathon effort by Rafi Sahab and Asha Bhosle who are trying to outplay each other in this 10 minutes long qawwali. And ” sone pe suhaaga ” is a unique trivia about this song, as both the singers are giving playback to Mehmood, i.e. Mehmood male qawwaal and Mehmood in the guise of a female qawwaal.

BADALTE HUYE SAATHI- Episode No. 6 (Hamida Bano sings with Shyamkumar)
—————————————————————————-

When I planned this series I knew that this subject is very vast and it was not possible to cover all major singers in such a short series. According to a source, from 1931 to year 2000, a total of about 7000 actors (male and Female) acted in Hindi Films in small and big roles. There must be atleast 1500 well known actors and the pity is, we do not have complete information on even 500 actors. For majority of actors, there are no Photographs ( remember, for a considerable time, how difficult it was to get a photograph of Shamshad begum or Madhubala Jhaveri ? ). So we know nothing about them except their names.

Little was known about “Sanjog” (1943), a movie released seven decades ago, but that was only till we in this blog began to discuss the songs from this movie. Here is what Mr Arunkumar Deshmukh, our beloved inhouse encyclopaedia has to say about this movie:

Laughter is a symbol of happy mood or joy. It is an important segment of ‘NAVRASAS’ as HASYA. Even the original writer Bharatmuni has described Hasya as an important element of Navaras, in his Natyashastra. That is why , probably, that many kings and Rajahs used to appoint a court Jester or Vidushak, who would ease the tension in the court by causing mirth.
