Lyrics of this song have been provided by Sudhir, a fellow enthusiast of Hindi movie music and a regular contributor to this blog.
“Ramu Dada” (1961) is a quintessential B grade Hindi movie. It stars Sheikh Mukhtaar,Jaimala, Sapru,Salim, Honey Irani etc.
The movie may be B grade and as a result not very well known, but the songs of this movie, like most B movies of that era, are absolutely A grade. After all, music of this movie is by Chitragupta. The reason why he did not make it to A grade movies was his lack of ambitions and networking skills, else any A grade banner would have happily worked with him.
This song is a wonderful example of Chitragupta’s talent. This song is sung by Kamal Barot whose lisping voice was not suited for most occasions but here here the song comes out wonderfully well in her voice.
The picturisation is interesting as well. A wedding reception is taking place where a guest presents a music box with a Japanese doll inside to the groom. As the key is turned on, the doll comes alive inside the box and sings this song.
The groom is played by Salim, who is apparently the same Salim Khan who later became one half of the Salim-Jawed duo and is now better known as the father of Salman Khan. I may be wrong too, and I request my readers to validate/ correct my observation.
PS-I thank Greta (Memsaab) for confirming that I am correct in my idenification.
The Japanese doll comes alive and sings this song. The Japanese doll is played by Sheila Vaz, who was a leading dancer those days who has figured in dance songs in movies like “Shree 420” (Dil ka haal sune dilwaala ), “Solva Saal” ( Dekhoji mera haal badal gayi chaal) etc.
Majrooh Sultanpuri is the lyricist.

Song-Sunaa hai jab se mausam hai pyaar ke kaabil (Ramu Dada) (1961) Singer-Kamal Barot, Lyrics-Majrooh Sultanpuri, MD-Chitragupta
Lyrics
suna hai jabse
mausam hai pyaar ke kaabil
laraz rahe hain armaan
dhadak rahaa hai dil
suna hai jabse
mausam hai pyaar ke kaabil
laraz rahe hain armaan
dhadak rahaa hai dil
un ke do naina
bandh gaye hain
jab hamaare nain se
un ke do naina
bandh gaye hain
jab hamaare nain se
dil ko smbhaale
aur bhi hum
kyun na hon bechain se
yeh beqaraari
bhi hai
qaraar mein shaamil
laraz rahe hain armaan
dhadak rahaa hai dil
suna hai jabse
mausam hai pyaar ke kaabil
laraz rahe hain armaan
dhadak rahaa hai dil
pyaar ka dushman
yeh jahaan kyun
is qadar khaamosh hai
pyaar ka dushman
yeh jahaan kyun
is qadar khaamosh hai
kaun ye sochebekhudi mein
kisko itna hosh hai
jo hai maseehaa
dil kaa
wohi to hai qaatil
laraz rahe hain armaan
dhadak rahaa hai dil
suna hai jabse
mausam hai pyaar ke kaabil
laraz rahe hain armaan
dhadak rahaa hai dil
aisi khushi ki
mauj aayee
dard o gham sab kho gaye
aisi khushi ki
mauj aayee
dard o gham sab kho gaye
koi hamaara
ho rahaa hai
hum kisi ke ho gaye
kabhi na chhoote
aise nazar gayee hai mil
laraz rahe hain armaan
dhadak rahaa hai dil
suna hai jabse
mausam hai pyaar ke kaabil
laraz rahe hain armaan
dhadak rahaa hai dil
As Sumitra says, it has been ages since I heard this song, and I had forgotten all about it. I guess Kamal Barot sang a few songs in the early 60’s (there was one in Miya Biwi Raazi – chhodo chhodo mori bainya …), and then faded out because her voice was not suitable for the leading ladies.
Thanks for finding these long forgotten gems.
The man is positively Salim Khan.
Salim khan dabbled in various activities of film industry. After doing small roles in 36 films by 1971,he swithed over to writing. He also was Astt.Cinematographer( 1 Film ),Operative Cameraman(1 film),Dialogue writer, story writer, screenplay writer and even produced 3 films.
His role of Rocky in Teesari Manzil was notable/noticeable.
Sorry !
There is a correction. The last line in the avove post should be ‘His role of Rocky(Shammi Kapoor)’s friend in Teesari Manzil was notable/noticeable.
I just remembered this song, looked it up, and found it was from the same movie as the above song! I am wondering how many more gems were hidden in this movie!
