Hans le gaa le o chaand mere

Posted on: March 1, 2011

I have discussed as many as six songs from “Jeet” (1948) in this blog. Most of these songs were sung by Suraiyya, the then reigning acting-singing superstar. But this movie also had a new emerging voice that was tipped to go far. Yes, Lata Mangeshkar was also given an opportunity of playback singing in this movie.

Here is a song from “Jeet” (1948) that is sung by Lata. Only the audio is available, so I am not sure about the actress on whom this song was picturised.

Prem Dhawan is the lyricist and Anil Biswas composed the music.

The voice of a young Lata sounds so sweet and adorable. The music is just as sweet too.

Song-Hans le gaa le o chaand mere (Jeet) (1949) Singer-Lata, Lyrics-Prem Dhawan, MD-Anil Biswas

Lyrics

hans le gaa le
o chaand mere
o mere chaand
hans le gaa le
o chaand mere
o mere chaand
hans le gaa le
taaron ke sang raas rachaa le
hans le gaa le
taaron ke sang raas rachaa le
hans le gaa le
o chaand mere
o mere chaand
hans le gaa le

meethe-meethe sapne lekar
raat suhaani aayi hai
ang-ang mein nayi umangen
nayi jawaani chhaayi hai
ang-ang mein nayi umangen
nayi jawaani chhaayi hai
nainon se aa nain milaa le
hans le gaa le
nainon se aa nain milaa le
hans le gaa le
o chaand mere
o mere chaand
hans le gaa le

sab duniyaa hans padti hai
jab tu aakar muskaataa hai
dil ki dhadkan kahti hai
koi dil mein bastaa jaataa hai
koi dil mein bastaa jaataa hai
ab iss dil ko kaun sambhaale
hans le gaa le
ab is dil ko kaun sambhaale
hans le gaa le
o chaand mere
o mere chaand
hans le gaa le
o chaand mere
o mere chaand
hans le gaa le
o chaand
hans le gaa le

Atul ji

The lead pair in this movie is of course Dev Anand and Suraiya, playing the role of Vijay and Jeet. Then there is another pair in the movie, Madan Puri and (hold your breath 🙂 ) Suraiya Chowdhary, playing the role of Ratan and Kiran. Yes, there is another actress by the same name, so the credits carry the full name “Suraiya Chowdhary”, to avoid confusion with the name of the leading lady.

This song is pictruized on Kiran and Ratan. This is a walk-in-the-garden song. Kiran lip syncs the song while Ratan gives a smiling company.

Suraiya Chowdhary was active in the movies during late 40s and 50s, doing supporting roles, and occasional heroine role; some notable roles are in Jeet, Saudagar, Lakhpati, Azad Hindustan (as heroiine), Desh Sewa, Dil Ki Duniya etc.

Yes, now that you mention it, I recall reading that Suraiyya Chaudhary was also there in this movie.

The song is picturised on Madan Puri and Suraiya Chaudhary.

Incidentally, the mukhda of the song ‘roothe saiyaan hamaare saiyaan kyon roothe’ from ‘Devar’ (1966) seems to have been inspired from the mukhda tune of this song.
