Koi roke usse aur ye kah de

Posted on: March 7, 2011

The more I listen to the songs of “Sindoor” (1947), the more interested I am to find about this movie. Unfortunately I have not been able to find any meaningful details about this movie.

But what songs this movie has ! I have discussed one song from this movie. Here is another song.

When I listened to this song again, I was magically transformed to the era of late 1960s and early 1970s, when this song was standard fare in Radio Ceylon’s “Puraani filmon ke geet” in the mornings (7-30 AM to 8 AM). Those days I disliked old songs, but now with the benefit of hindsight, I must say that this song must have touched some right nerves i me, because I still remember listening to this song those days. so when i listened to this song again, I rememberd it, and this time, I absolutely loved it.

This time, unlike then, I know the details of this song, and that makes me admire the creators of this song that much more. This song is sung by Amirbai Karnataki. The lyrics of Qamar Jalalabadi are what makes this song what it is. And the music of Khemchand Prakash creates just the right ambience.

Here is this wonderful song, that must have been a huge hit during its time, going by how much I listened to this song in my younger days. And this song is still a magical song to listen to.

Song-Koi roke usse aur ye keh de (Sindoor) (1947) Singer-Amirbai Karnataki, Lyrics-Qamar Jalalabadi, MD-Khemchand Prakash

Lyrics

koi roke usse aur ye kah de
kuchh apni nishaani detaa jaa
koi roke usse aur ye kah de
kuchh apni nishaani detaa jaa
gar ye bhi tujhe manzoor nahin
to yaad bhi apni letaa jaa

Meeraa ki zabaan chup hai lekin
aankhen ro-ro kar ye kahti hain
jis dil ko tadaptaa chhod chalaa
us dil ke tukde letaa jaa
jis dil ko tadaptaa chhod chalaa
us dil ke tukde letaa jaa

main mit jaaun to mit jaaun
main mit jaaun to mit jaaun
tu shaad rahe aabaad rahe
tu shaad rahe aabaad rahe
o jaane waale thahar zaraa
iss dil ki duaayen letaa jaa
o jaane waale thahar zaraa
iss dil ki duaayen letaa jaa
koyi roke usse aur ye kah de
kuchh apni nishaani detaa jaa

Atul ji,

What pure magic, what an exquisite delivery. The words and composition are beautiful, but the soul of the song is the voice of Amirbai Karnataki, brimming with emotions and longing.

A song that is one of the dearest to my heart.
