Hindi movies prior to independence are movies which had actors about whom very little is known today. Except some well known names of those days, others have been forgotten.
For instance, there was a movie called “Bhakt Surdas” (1943) in which there were K L Saigal, Khursheed,Monica Desai,Nagendra etc. We all know about K L Saigal and have vaguely heard of Khursheed. The other two names are not something with which most people are familiar.
Even Khursheed is not all thatwell known. There were several people (of both genders) called Khursheed those days. This Khursheed was a leading lady of those days and like most actors of those days, she sang her own songs.
Here is a song from “Bhakt Surdas” (1943) which was sung by Khursheed and it was picturised on he as well.
This song reputedly went on to become a favourite song of K L Saigal, who was her acting colleage in this movie.
D N Madhok is the lyricist of this song and its music is composed by Gyan Dutt.

First of all it is difficult to differentiate the music at the beginning with the sound of “madhur madhur ga” when actual singing started.
