Insaaf teraa dekhaa ae saaqi e maikhaanaa

Posted on: May 15, 2011

I thought that I had already discussed this song from “Shamaa” (1961) but it turns out that I was wrong. I was confusing this song with another song from this movie.

This song is a mujra song which is sung nicely by Suman Kalyanpuri. Kaifi Azmi has come up with some nice lyrics. Ghulam Mohammad is the music director.

The song is picturised on Kammo.

There may be a few errors in the lyrics and I request my knowledgeable readers with keener ears to point them out out, so that I may be able to correct them.

Song-Insaaf tera dekhaa ae saaqi e maykhaanaa (Shamaa) (1961) Singer-Suman Kalyanpur, Lyrics-Kaifi Azmi, MD-Ghulam Mohammad

Lyrics

insaaf teraa dekhaa
ae saaqi-e-maykhaanaa
insaaf teraa dekhaa
ae saaqi-e-maykhaanaa
ham baithe rahe pyaase
chhalkaa kiyaa
chhalkaa kiyaa paimaanaa
chhalkaa kiyaa paimaanaa
ham baithe rahe pyaase
chhalkaa kiyaa paimaanaa

ham tazkira karte thhe
duniyaa ki jafaaon kaa
ham tazkira karte thhe
duniyaa ki jafaaon kaa
kyun tumne nazar badli
kyun keh diyaa deewaanaa
kyun tumne nazar badli
kyun keh diyaa deewaanaa
insaaf teraa dekhaa
ae saaqi-e-maykhaanaa
ham baithe rahe pyaase
chhalkaa kiyaa paimaanaa

aa aa aa aa
khud odh liyaa hamne
ilzaam muhabbat kaa
haan
khud odh liyaa hamne
ilzaam muhabbat kaa
dekhaa na gayaa hamse
un aankhon kaa sharmaanaa
dekhaa na gayaa hamse
un aankhon kaa sharmaanaa
insaaf teraa dekhaa
ae saaqi-e-maykhaanaa
ham baithhe rahe pyaase
chhalkaa kiyaa paimaanaa

aa aa aa aa
kaafi hai taaruf ye
ae shamm-e-sar-e-mehfil
kaafi hai taaruf ye
ae shamm-e-sar-e-mehfil
hai kaam meraa jalnaa
aur naam hai parwaanaa
hai kaam meraa jalnaa
aur naam hai parwaanaa
insaaf teraa dekhaa
ae saaqi e-maykhaanaa
ham baithe rahe pyaase
chhalkaa kiyaa
chhalkaa kiyaa paimaanaa
chhalkaa kiyaa paimaanaa
ham baithe rahe pyaase
chhalkaa kiyaa paimaanaa

The word tazkiraa(?) is correct except that there should be only one ‘a’ at the end because the should of ‘a’ is not as long as in ‘card’. For example in the word ‘drama’ there are two ‘a’ sounds. The first ‘a’ sound is long and the second one is short. It is a typical urdu sound such as the last ‘a’ sound of ‘Pakeezah’. Tazkira in urdu means ‘jikr’, ‘charcha’, discussion, etc.

Thanks for confirming that Tazkira is the correct word.
