When I was growing up in late 1960s and early 1970s, I was upset with oldtimer movie makers of earlier decades. Why did the oldtimers create such “boring” songs. And secondly, why would they give their movies the same titles as the movies of 1970s. 🙂 Yes, I blamed old movie makers for their titles like Dushman(1938),Jugnu (1947), Anokhi Ada(1948), Andaaz(1949), Samadhi (1950), Aankhen(1951) etc which were the same titles vis a vis titles of new movies released in late 1960s and early 1970s. Whenever I heard an announcement in Akashwani that a song of the abovementioned movies was going to be played, I eagerly looked forward to listening to a new song, but I felt badly let down on finding that the song played was from an old movie of the same name.
“Saawan Bhaadon” is also a title that I associate with the movie of 1970 that was the debut movie for its lead pair viz Rekha and Navin Nischol. And this movie had some nice songs in it, which were quite popular with listeners. The fact that there was another movie of the same name that had come as far back as in 1949 was not known to people like me, and in any case, I knew that the older movie would only have “boring” songs in it.
How things have changed in four decades ! Now I like the songs of older movies with the same title. I have discussed more songs from “Saawan Bhaadon” (1949) as compared to “Saawan Bhaadon”(1970). “Saawan Bhaadon” (1949) is a movie that had actors like Ram Singh, Munawwar Sultana,Om Prakash, Randhir, Indu, Jankidas, Raj Adeeb etc. It was produced by Prakash pictures and it was directed by Ravindra Dave.
I have so far discussed two songs from “Saawan Bhaadon” (1949). Here is another song from this movie. This song is sung by Geeta Dutt. Mulkraj Bhakri is the lyricist and music is composed by Husnlal Bhagatram. Only the audio of this song is avialable so it is not possible to tell with certainty abou the actor on whom this song is picturised. However, one can assume that this song is picturised on Munawwar Sultana. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw more light on this matter.
