I keep discovering musical gems almost on a daily basis. and no, I do not have to dig deep for them. I come across them inadvertently while casually playing a few songs on youtube.
This song is from “Grihasthhi” (1948). The person uploading this audio on youtube has mistaken this voice for Shamshad Begam’s. Theere is hardly any resemblence between this voice and Shamshad Begam’s voice, though. I searched and I found that this song is sung by Hamida Banu !
Yes, this is a “new” singer as far as I am concerned. I searched for a picture of her on internet and found a photo containing several singers of those days. Hamida Banu is the one in the centre, fourth from left as well as right- the one holding what looks like a dark coloured book.
This forgotten gem is penned by Wahid Qureshi and its music is composed by Ghulam Mohammad.
So I have uploaded the audio of this song, alongwith the picture of singers, including Hamida Banu.

This song which I heard when I was 5 years of age. It was in Mainpuri. I listened it at home which was being played on loudspeaker in NUMAISH. Few days back i remembered and tried to locate on youtube and could not find. It is so loving and touching. I found it through Ask.com. Thank you for uploading it. USA

I saw ‘Girhasti’ in one of its re-run spells in a cinema long ago. This song in the film was picturised on the hero’s brother, actor Masood. Now that I have listened to this song after a such a long time, it has revived old memories. The film ‘Girhasti’ starred Kuldip Kaur, Masood, Sulochana Chatterjee, Yakub, Pran, Lalita Pawar, and others.

Sorry, I committed mistakes while typing my comments. The song, ‘Bewafa duniya ki humne bewafai…’ was picturised on the hero’s sister, probably actress Sharda. The hero of this film was actor Masood, though Yakub had an equally important role in the film.
