The versatility of Saigal Saab never ceases to amaze. Given that only 185 recordings of his songs are available, may the history of Indian cinema have been different, had Saigal Saab lived a longer life.

This song from the 1936 movie Millionaire (alias Krorepati) is duet song sung by KL Saigal and Pahadi Sanyal. This is a social drama produced by New Theatres, Calcutta, and directed by Hem Chander. The star cast for this movie includes KL Saigal, Miss Molina, Pahadi Sanyal, Trilok Kapoor, Jagdeesh, Rajkumari, Kidar, Sardar Akhtar, Devbala, Nawaab etc. The lyrics for this movie are written by Kidar Sharma. The music composition is shared by RC Boral and Pankaj Mullick. Once again, one of the earlier production featuring Saigal Saab, for which complete information about songs and the recordings themselves are not available. This song is composed by RC Boral.

The problems of finding employment seem to be as old as the education system that started doling out the BA and MA degrees, raising the expectation that a degree will mean an earning job. Apparently it is two young friends who have completed their BA/MA degrees and are searching for employment. In later years, in 50s and 60s, there are many instances of fun and tragic songs about looking for a job. This could arguably be the earliest such song, in search of a job.

This is such a wonderful example of a light hearted song from this genius. It the same voice that sings ‘Jab dil hi toot gaya’ and ‘Diyaa jalaao jag mag jag mag’ and ‘Baabul mora naihar chhooto hoi jaaye”. And that is how versatile this voice is, and I repeat, it never ceases to amaze. The fun lyrics are by Kidar Sharma and the light music is composed by RC Boral. Although only the audio of this song is available, it is safe to assume that the song is picturized on KL Saigal and Pahadi Sanyal.

Enjoy this fun duet in the voices of Saigal Saab and Pahadi Sanyal.

Song-Jo naukri dilaa de (Krorepati) ( 1936) Singer-K L Saigal, Pahadi Sanyal, Lyrics-Kidar Sharma, MD-R C Boral

Lyrics

jo naukri dilaa de
BA banaane waale
haan
jo naukri dilaa de
BA banaane waale
haan
bigdi huyi banaa de
degree dilaane waale
haan
bigdi huyi banaa de
degree dilaane waale

haan
milti nahin hai service
haaa
haaaan
bekaar phir rahe hain
milti nahin hai service
bekaar phir rahe hain
BA kehlaane waale
MA kehlaane waale
haaan
BA kehlaane waale
MA kehlaane waale

bhookhe hain biwi bachhe
tan par nahin hai kapda
bhookhe hain biwi bachhe
tan par nahin hai kapda
babu bane huye hain
collar lagaane waale
haan
babu bane huye hain
collar lagaane waale

haaan aa aa
kuchh kaam mil to jaataa
kuchh kaam ban to jaataa
kuchh kaam mil to jaataa
kuchh kaam ban to jaataa
mazdoor jo banaa de
MA banaane waale
haan
mazdoor jo banaa de
MA banaane waale
haan
bigdi huyi banaa de
degree dilaane waale

A great song which is not well known. If you notice the interlude is similar to that in Andhe ki lathi tu hi hai. Thanks for this post.
