Sainyyaa beimaan haaye

This article is written by Sudhir,a fellow enthusiast of Hindi movie music and a regular contributor to this blog. This Sajjad Hussain composition, which was presumed extinct till now has also been unearthed and provided by him

Here is one more offering from the film ‘Tilasmi Duniya’ (1946). Recordings from this movie have been obscure and missing from decades. In this era of online publications, the only reason a particular item is not available online, could be that the item is of absolutely no interest, or that it is completely obscure or even lost. That seems to be the situation with these records also. It is just providential that I found these records in the collection of a good friend of mine; and he thankfully agreed to share the recording.

This is the 5th song from this film to be posted. About the film itself, not much information is available so far from known sources. The movie was produced under the banner of Jupiter Art Pictures, Bombay and directed by AM Khan. The listed star cast for this movie is S Kulkarni, Sarla Devi, Sita Devi, Shiraaz, Rampyaari, Agha Peerjaan, Rafiq, Madhukar Gupte, Narmada Shankar, Mehndi Raja, Ansari. The name of lyricist and the names of the singers are not yet determined. This song is a duet, and both the male and female voices are as yet unidentified.

C Ramchandra once commented that Sajjaad Saab is “. . . a musician of musicians”. In terms of his originality and innovation, all his peers have always held him in high esteem. And yet, his body of work is very meager. There are many reasons cited, including indifferent management of personal relationships on the side of Sajjaad Saab, and also a campaign of rumor mongering against him. It is the misfortune of music lovers that his creations are limited, but it is also a relief that he was, and he created; whatever small number of songs, but great songs.

Coming from 1946, these lyrics sound very candid and flagrant, almost bordering on being raunchy. There may be other songs with such explicit lyrics, but I cannot recall another song from more than 40 years later, that the word ‘chumma’ was used again (referring to the ‘chumma’ song from Sharaabi, 1984). This song goes somewhat beyond, talking about the explicit mischievous exchange between the lover and the beloved.

Enjoy this extremely rare discovery, being played once again after a hiatus of many decades. 🙂

Wow, what a rare find! Thank you so much Sudhir Ji and Atul Ji for the rare gems of this film. The singers sound very obscure and must have sung very few songs in films. I think the female singer could in fact be Sarla Devi Ji, listening to the others songs of this films, your couresty 🙂

The male singer sounds very doubtful, actually Durrani Ji occasionally sounds like this in a few songs, but Iam not sure. Or who knows, perhaps it was Sajjad Ji himself!? My best wishes and congratulations for this great achievement.

I can provide some rare songs which are not on YouTube, etc. with lyrics if you would please. Once you agree I can email you about it.
