Out of 110 movie songs sung by K L Saigal , 106 are available and 100 of them have been discussed in this blog. Searching for the 6 remaining songs not yet discussed in like searching for a needle in a haystack. After careful search, it has been revealed that this particular song from “Krorepati”(1936) had so far escaped from being posted. 😀
So here is this song from “Krorepati” (1936). This song is sung by K L Saigal and Pahadi Sanyal. Kidar Sharma is the lyricist and R C Boral composed the music.
When one thinks about it, one realises that this song is 75 year old. Listening to this and other songs in those days must have been a privilege reserved from a few rich individuals because records and records players were expensive and radio stations playing such songs too had not yet been set up. So all we know, a song like this may have been heard by only those people who watched this movie at that time. Others missed out for decades till radio Ceylon appeared on the scene in 1950s and began to play K L Saigal at the stroke of 8 AM in their programme “Puraani filmon ke geet”.
This blog too is like that Radio Ceylon programme in the sense that the very first song in a day in the blog is a K L Saigal song. 😀 The difference being, this blog discussed one as yet undiscussed song every day. That way, we only have 5 more K L Saigal movie songs remaining and about 20 odd non filmy songs remaining. Discussing the non film songs with in depth analysis and translations are the speciality of Sudhir ji.
