“Mashaal” (1950) is a movie starring Ashok Kumar, Sumitra Devi and Roomi Devi. This movie is today remembered as the movie that brought Manna Dey to limelight with his song Upar gagan vishaal .
This movie has several nice songs in it. I have discussed as many as five songs from this movie.
Here is another song from this movie. This song is also sung by Manna Dey. The credits of the song mention the name of only Manna Dey but there is a female voice too in this song. I have no idea who is this singer or is it supposed to be chorus. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw more light on this matter.
Pradeep is the lyricist. Music is composed by S D Burman. When I listened to the audio of the song, it sounded like an inspirational song to me. But when I watched the picturisation, I find that the song is picturised as a beggar song, in which one blind began,accompanied by two young kids are shown holding begging bowls and singing this song. I am unable to identify the actors on whom this song is picturised. I request our knowledgeable readers to help identify them.
PS-The actor lip syncing in Manna Dey’s voice in Nazir Kashmiri, who has played Ramu Kaka in countless movies of Hindi movies and whose identity was a matter of great speculation and research in Memsaab’s blog. It is nice to see the trusty old Nazir Kashmiri getting to sing a song in Hindi movies.

Some trivias about Mashal(1950)-
1) Mashal was produced by Ashok Kumar under the banner of Bombay Talkies.
2) The actor in the above song S.Nazir was later famous as the perinnial “RAMUKAKA”,the traditional faithful servant in the house in inumerable films.
3) In Mashal was another rare actor,KANU ROY,who was Geeta Roy’s own brother,Asstt.to S.D.Burman and later a well known music Director(like Anubhav etc.) himself.
4) Arun kumar Mukherjee has sung songs in Mashal.

His full name is Syed Nazir kashmiri,as per my knowledge.

Whether the lady appearing in the song credited as ROOMI DEVI,
is the same RUMA GUHA TAKURTHA(who acted in Dilip kumar`s 1976-BAIRAAG-she acted as wife of Dilip kumar(senior-as dilip kumar acted in triple role in that movie))????
Further in real life Ruma Guha Takurta is first wife of singer Kishore kumar and mother of Singer Amit Kumar.
Facial features of both ladies looks similiar.
She must be a popular actress in Bengali Film Industry, I somewhere read she acted in one of Bengali films directed by Late Satyajit Ray.

RUMA DEVI/RUMA GUHA THAKURTA (Ruma Ghosh before marriage) was an actress who acted from 1944 to 2006 in different movies,about 50 in number.
She had also acted in Jwar Bhata-Dilip’s first movie,then Bairaag and Sangharsh also.
She was Kishore Kumar’s first wife from 1950 to1958 and she is the mother of Amit kumar.
She is the same in Mashal also.

The senior actor in the singing trio is S Nazir.
I am not able to identify the child actors.
