Khul Jaa Sim Sim – the name itself suggests that this is going to be a fantasy adventure film, based on the tale of Alibaba, Chaalis Chor from the Arabian Nights. Released in 1956 under the banner of Golden Films, Bombay, the film is produced by Mulkhraj Bhakri (readers may recognize this name as a lyricist also), and is directed by Nanubhai Vakil. A grade B fantasy adventure, the main actors in this films are Mahipal, Shakila, Maruti, Heeralal, Helen, Niranjan Sharma, Krishna Kumari, Naazi, Sadiq, Vijaya Kumari etc.

The lyrics for this film are written by Asad Bhopali, and the music is composed by Hansraj Behl. The singing voice in this song is that of Geeta Dutt supported by chorus. Only the audio of this song is available, and hence it is not feasible to comment on the picturization. Knowledgeable readers may please add more information, as the storyline and the on screen performance for this song,

This film was followed by a sequel in 1958, by the name Sim Sim Marjina, produced under the same banner, and with an almost the entire star cast reprising their roles.

The song itself is a lilting melody that Geeta ji has rendered so well – and a wonderful composition from Hansraj Behl. It is such a wonder that these song from 50 to 60 to 70 years ago, still sound so fresh and new and close to heart. Even the one’s that we have not heard before. I had not heard this song before, and heard it for the first time just a few hours ago.

Enjoy this lovely song from an obscure film from fifty five years ago.

jab nazar se nazar mil ke jhuk jaayegi

is tamaashe mein kitna mazaa aayegaa
haan mazaa aayegaa

jab adaaon pe masti si chhaa jaayegi

dil milengey jahaan
dekhnaa kuchh naye gul khilengey wahaan

We all know the story of Alibaba and the 40 Thieves.
The story of KHUL JAA SIM SIM (1956) starts from when the thieves and their Sardar Behramkhan(Heeralal) is killed.Alibaba(Mahipal chand Bhandari) throws the dead body of the Sardar,in front of two jobless youths. The sardar, who is seriously wounded and not dead, manages to reach the Jungle.Just before dying,he meets an old saint(Niranjan Sharma) with whom he leaves a message for Alibaba that he should give up the wealth earned by thieves as it is bad.
The saint conveys this to Alibaba, who ignores it as he is busy in enjoying life with Margina(Shakila),who loves him.She too advises Alibaba, but he does not listen.
Once Alibaba saves the life of princess Zar Nigar(Naazi) from evil Vazir. She starts loving him.He too falls for her.Alibaba throws Margina out,she goes to Jungle and meets the Saint.
Alibaba’s face is burnt in an accident and the Princess leaves him.Margina returns to tend him. He repents and distirbutes his health to poor people.

Sorry, the word ‘health’ in the last line should be ‘wealth’.(the saying ‘health is wealth’does not apply here !)
