“Chiraag” (1969) is a Suchitra pictures production. It was directed by Raj Khosla. This movie had a star cast consisting of Sunil Dutt, Asha Parekh, Lalita Pawar, Om Prakash, Kanhaiyalal, Sulochana, Snehlata, Mukri, Ram Avtaar, Dulari, Asha Nadkarni etc in it.
The movie failed at the box office, which was sadly a standard fate for movies with music by Madan Mohan. But what music this movie had ! I have watched the movie in a movie hall. The movie did not live up to the expectations of movie watchers (including me), but what songs the movie had ! One great song after another kept appearing in the movie and the movie watchers kept explaining-” wow ! so this song too is from this movie ? ”
Here is a song from “Chiraag” (1969). The word “Chiraag”, or rather “Charaag” figures in the song and that makes this song a title song as well as theme song of the movie. And it is a backgrounfd song as well, seeing that no one really lip syncs this song on the screen.
The voice of Rafi is at its most divine in this song. Majrooh Sultanpuri is the lyricist.

I cry shamelessly, whenever I listen to this song. It does have that much of power upon me.
Deadly combination of Rafi,MadanMohan,Majrooh and Raj Khosla,
Ya, Sunil dutt emoted very well(like he did in Mera saayaa song “Aapke Pehloo mein aakar ro diye”)
Mahesh Bhatt (Mahesh bhatt once used to be an Assistant to Raj Khosla)once said Raj khosla had a special knack of picturising the song very beautifully and sensitively.
I fully agree with his observation and in my opinion Raj Khosla,
Raj kapoor, Vijay anand filmed the songs of their films very beautifully with great vision. Their picturisation never looks out of place and boring, they are woven into the story line of movies.
