Jo main chhoti si hoti badariyaa

I have discussed one song from “Suhaag Sindoor” (1961) in the past. At that time, I had little knowledge about that movie.
In response to that post, our inhouse knowledge bank Mr Arunkumar Deshmukh provided all the information about this movie that we may need. Here is his take on this movie:-
SUHAG SINDOOR(1961),a Chandra films production,produced by the owner Chandra Desai,was directed by the popular southern duo of Krishnan Panju,in a typical south Indian style. It had lot of twists,subplots and coincidences to make the matters complicated and everything fits into places like a jigsaw, paving a way for the customary group photo in the end.
Ratan(Manoj kumar)is son of a moneylender-sawkar-Mr.Dayashanker(Kanhaiyalal) and also Air Force Pilot. When he starts on home leave,Ramu(Balraj Sahni),an Army Officer gives a Briefcase to him to be given to his sister in the same town. Ratan loses the address paper enroute and is unable to deliver the B/C. Ramu’s sister dies without medicines leaving her young daughter Ratna alone. In due course of time Ratan falls in love with,now grown up,Ratna(Mala Sinha) and they marry against Dayashankar’s will and get thrown out of the house. They happily live elsewhere(No silly questions like,what about Ratan’s Air force job etc.please). Ratna,now named Chanda is pregnant. Dayashanker lies to her that Ratan does not want her anymore and lies to Ratan that Chanda is dead.(They naively believe all this) and Ratan is ready to marry Nalini(Padma Chavan) daughter of a Lawyer(Ulhas).
Meanwhile,Ramu comes back form war,wounded,hospitalised and recovered,only to find out that sis is dead and niece is lost. Ramu stays with Gulabi(Shubha Khote)and pulls Rikshaws for livelyhood( Hey,what about Army Pensions etc ?). Chanda delivers baby,gives to Golabi and attempts suicide,is saved by Budhist Monks.Ramu finds her,knows all details and is ready to kill Ratan on the day of his wedding. After many melodramatic scenes,revealations etc,the puzzle is solved and evrybody is reasonably satisfied with answers.

🙂 Fortunately, the songs of such movies can be enjoyed even without knowing the story line of movies. Moreover, these songs are invariably A grade, even if the movie may not quite be so.
Here is a lovely joie de vivre category of song from “Suhaag Sindoor” (1961). This song is sung by Lata and it is picturised on Mala Sinha. Rajinder Krishan is the lyricist and music is composed by Chitragupta.
This is a nice song to listen to. Singer and music director often get more credit and the lyricist is forgotten, but let us all hail Rajinder Krishan, who has written lots and lots of awesome songs containing original ideas. This song is the 400th song of Rajinder Krishan in this blog. He is only the second lyricist (behind Majrooh Sultanpuri) to reach this figure in the blog. He is not as well known as Majrooh Sultanpuri and several other contemporaries, but as far as I am concerned, his contributions i the field of Hindi movie lyrics writing is second to none. And that is in addition to writing screen plays, dialogues, stories etc in several movies as well. Rajinder Krishan Duggal, a Punjabi by birth, was conversant with Tamil and he wrote screenplays of Tamil movies as well. And of course that enabled him to land assignments with soourthern movie makers, viz AVM.
It is a surprise that a person as talented and multi faceted as Rajinder Krishan is not well known. It is my privilege to present the 400th song of Rajinder Krishan in this blog.
