This article is written by Sudhir, a fellow enthusiast of Hindi movie music and a regular contributor to this blog.
A tongue in cheek song, if ever there was one. The first line itself suggests that this one is going to be a very very interesting song. Recorded sometimes late 30s or so, this is a gem of a song from the pen of Pt. Madhur. What a pace and a rhythm, reminds one of, ‘aayee bahaar aaj aayee bahaar’.
The poet says that his heart has been stolen, and it blames the eyes for it, for they were seeing as the robbery was taking place, but they not raise an alarm or attempted to get it back. The remaining part of the song is a debate between the heart and the eyes. This wonderful non film melody by Pankaj Babu is extremely rare recording, which was not so far available on YouTube. I have now published it online.
Enjoy is fast paced gem of a conversation between the heart and the eyes.
Song-Ho gayaa dil aur aankh mein jhagdaa (Pankaj Mullick NFS) (1940) Singer-Pankaj Mullick, Lyrics-Pt Madhur, MD-Pankaj Mullick
Lyrics
ho gayaa dil aur aankh mein jhagdaa
dil ko churaa gayaa pardesi
nahin aankh ne pakdaa
ho gayaa dil aur aankh mein jhagdaa
dil ko churaa gayaa pardesi
nahin aankh ne pakdaa
ho gayaa dil
aankhen boley paagal dil hai
iske zakhmon par manzil hai
dil kehtaa hum lutey magar
kuchh nahin aankh ka bigdaa
dil kehtaa hum lutey magar
kuchh nahin aankh ka bigdaa
dil ko churaa gayaa pardesi
nahin aankh ne pakdaa
ho gayaa dil
dil ne apna bhed chhupaayaa
aankhon ne jag ko batlaayaa
dil ne apna bhed chhupaayaa
aankhon ne jag ko batlaayaa
duniyaa hansi
duniyaa hansi
dekh premi ka rona rona mukhdaa
dil ko churaa gayaa pardesi
nahin aankh ne pakdaa
ho gayaa dil
dono karne lagey ghulaami
kaisi meethhi ye badnaami
is jhagde mein aansoo ban kar
dil aankhon si bichhdaa
dil aankhon si bichhdaa
is jhagde mein aansoo ban kar
dil aankhon si bichhdaa
dil aankhon si bichhdaa
dil ko churaa gayaa pardesi
nahin aankh ne pakdaa
ho gayaa dil aur ankh mein jhagdaa
dil ko churaa gayaa pardesi
nahin aankh ne pakdaa
