As I am looking searching for un-posted songs of Pankaj Babu, I am also coming across movies, that were supposedly major draws in their times. Adhikaar (1938), a New Theatres production from Calcutta, is another significant social drama directed by PC Barua.
Reading about their themes and screenplays, one is struck by the fact that even in those decades which are considered to be infancy of Indian cinema, the subjects dealt with were complex, and assuredly, the directors and actors who put in their efforts for these creations are considered as pioneering stalwarts of this industry.
The name Pramathesh Chandra Barua stands out as a flamboyant and talented actor/writer/director, who helped to mould the film industry in India, in its early decades. The films created in the early years are the trendsetters and seminal works, whose themes and story lines have been copied and improvised countless number of times over the decades. But these initial productions were work of great courage and daring on part of the writers and producers, to tackle complex themes in a medium that was still uncertain as to its future and its objectives.
Adhikaar is a social drama highlighting the class and caste conflicts in the society, as also exploring the human side of relationships, within families and between a man and a woman. The star cast of the film includes PC Barua, Jamuna, Pahadi Sanyal, Menaka Devi, Pankaj Mullick, Rajyalakshmi, Jagdish Sethi, Bikram Kapoor, Raajkumari, Ushavati, Montu Mukherjee etc. The story and screenplay is by PC Barua. The lyrics are shared Rashid and Munshi Aarzoo (later also known as Aarzoo Lucknowi), and the music composition is by Timir Baran. Aarzoo Lucknowi is the lyricist of this song.
Nikhilesh (Barua) loves Indira (Jamuna), who belongs to a rich family. A poor orphan girl, Radha (Menaka Devi), arrives at the household of Jamuna’s family, claiming to be Indira’s stepsister and therefore part inheritor of the family estate. Indira agrees to share her inheritance but then Radha makes a play for Nikhilesh. Ultimately, Radha turns out to be the real and sole heir of the family, and Indira is forced to forfeit her claims, and has to leave her home and property. But for Indira, love proves to be stronger than material possession as she and Nikhilesh get married, and move to a village. Radha finds happiness with Ratan, a man she had known and loved during her days of poverty.
The film brings home a message about the impermanence of social status, and how destinies will change as life winds through its arduous passages. This song is sung by Pahadi Sanyal and Pankaj Mullick, and by some accounts, it is apparently also picturized on them. The song is wonderful remembrance of childhood days, possibly a childhood shared by two friends, and they tell about the small things that used to be big fun and wonder in their days as children. And the poet also expresses some regrets that those times are no more, and the life now is a trapped in the ‘maayaa’ of this world.
A delightful number, very lovingly rendered by the two singers.

Lyrics
kahaan wo bachpan ka pyaara sapna
kahaan wo bachpan ka pyaara sapna
swarg bhari wo prem ki raina
swarg bhari wo prem ki raina
kahaan wo bachpan ka pyaara sapna
bagiyan mein mil jul ke jaanaa
phoolon ka wo mahal banaanaa
bagiyan mein mil jul ke jaanaa
phoolon ka wo mahal banaanaa
dulha dulhan ban byaah rachaanaa
dulha dulhan ban byaah rachaanaa
aanchal dhalke jal mein phirnaa
pyaara sapna
kahaan wo bachpan ka pyaara sapna
haaye achaanak huaa saveraa
jag maayaa ne mann ko gheraa
haaye achaanak huaa saveraa
jag maayaa ne mann ko gheraa
ujad gayaa wo rain baseraa
ujad gayaa wo rain baseraa
toot gayaa hanson kaa tehnaa
toot gayaa hanson kaa tehnaa
mann mein baittheen bholi baaten
mann mein baittheen bholi baaten
laaj bhare torey do nainaa
laaj bhare torey do nainaa
pyaara sapna
