In Hindi movies, most activities are carried out according to a set piece pattern, and that included songs as well. Teasing songs, romantic songs, expression of love song, all of them seem to follow some well laid down guidelines.
Sometimes we find songs and their picturisations that are refreshingly different. I S Johan was one of those few movie makers who enjoyed making movies where he took an irreverent look at matters.
“Johar in Bombay” (1967) was indeed one such movie. In this movie, I S Johar, playing the hero does things differently from the usual Hindi movie heroes.
Here is a song from this movie which is a “teasing” song. But unlike the usual “teasing songs where both hero and heroine are on their feet, this is a “teasing in style” song in the sense that both of them are drving their own cars. Sonia Sahni is driving an “Impala” (in those days expensive foreign cars were called Impala in India, though strictly speaking only Chevorlet Impala model cars should have been described that way), while I S Johar chases her in his “khataara” car.
This song is sung by Mahendra Kapoor and the lyrics by Qamar Jalalabadi are not the usual lyrics, but they are fun filled light hearted lyrics. Usha Khanna is the music director.
The song is picturised on the streets of Bombay. It is not just I S Johar who behaves differently, his car follows suit too, and instead of running on the road, climbs up the sky and flying behind Sonia Sahni’s car. 🙂 Yes, this song is that kind of a song, in its audio as well as in its picturisation.

Oh, I love this song. Such a timepass song it is. This movie was a real timepass movie too.
