“Intezar” (1973) was produced by Mohan Sehgal and direced by Mohan Singh Kavia for De Luxe Films, Bombay. The movie had Rinku Jaiswal, Baldev Khosa, Padmini Kapila, Vishal, I S Johar, Mohan Choti, Lata Arora, Chandrima Bhaduri, Manhar Desai, Bhushan Tiwari, Kamlakar Date, Bhanumati, Kamal deep, Leela Mishra, Rakesh Pandey (special appearance), Master Rafiq, Baby Reshma, Baby Mumtaz, Narmada Shankar, Radheshyam etc in it.

The movie had five songs in it. Four of these songs have been covered in the past.

Here are the details of the four songs that have been covered in the past.

Here is the fifth and final song from “Intezaar” (1973) to appear in the blog. This song is arguably the most well known song from the movie. I was aware of this song during its day even though I was not aware about the details of the song vis a vis the movie the song was from.

I was only aware of a few lines from the song. Today, more than 45 years after I firdt heard this song, I actually became aware of the full lyrics of the song while noting them down. The song is supposed to be a light hearted song and a satire of babas. But the lyrics of the song are not as trivial as they are supposed to be. The lyrics, to my mind are quite philosophical. In addition, the light hearted lyrics of the song actually convey messages that I feel are true. The conventional logic is that one should live a life of self denial to secure “moksh”. The message of the lyrics is just the reverse. The song and the picturisation is supposed to be light hearted and not to be taken seriously, but I find myself fully agreeing to the contents of the song. It is perhaps something that the lyricist never intended to, when he penned this song all those years ago. 🙂

The song is sung by Manna Dey and it is lip synced by I S Johar who plays a baba. He preaches indulgence, instead of self denial, and naturally he has a big following compared to those babas who preach boring stuff like leading disciplined spartan lifestyle far from distractions of modern life.

Verma Malik is the lyricist and he inadvertently has penned a great philosophical song with quite a bit of truth in it.

Chitragupta is the music director.

With this song, “Intezaar” (1973) joins the list of movies that have all their songs covered in the blog.

Song-Man ko pinjre mein na daalo (Intezaar)(1973) Singer-Manna Dey, Lyrics-Verma Malik, MD-Chitragupta

Lyrics

hmm
hmm hmm hmm
man ko pinjre mein na daalo
man ka kahna mat taalo
man ko pinjre mein na daalo
man ka kahna mat taalo
arre man to hai ek udta panchchi
jitna ude udaa lo
man ko
man ko pinjre mein na daalo
man ka kahna mat taalo

kehte hain ki pyaar na kar
arre pyaar aur na karo

man jo kahe ke pyaar karo
ek baar nahin sau baar karo
kyun
ye pyaar diya usne nibhaane ke liye
aji pyaar diya usne nibhaane ke liye
roop diya sirf dikhaane ke liye
aankhen banaayi hain ladaane ke liye to
dil diya usne milaane ke liye
are pyaar ek punya hai pyaar hai jaap
nahin hota to bhi karo apne aap
pyaar koi paap nahin pyaar hai milaap
pyaar bina jeewan hai total flop
punya paap ke chakkar mein koi
pad ke sake na bach
kyun re chele jhooth kaha
nahin guru ji
sach
thank you very much
man ko pinjre mein na daalo
man ka kahna mat taalo
man ko pinjre mein na daalo

to kehte hain ki madira na piyo
arre bhai kyun
kyun na piyo
man kahe gar wishky piyo
phir jiski mile tum uski piyo
arre peene ki cheez hai ye karo mat gham
bhai peene ki cheez hai ye karo mat gham
kabhi nahin sochna ke tharra ya rum
itni piyo ke ukhad jaaye dum
baatli mile to poori baatli khatam
arre jab whisky se man bhar jaayega
bhar jaayega to tauba kar jaayega
man pe jo koi kaabu kar jaayega
bhavsaagar se wo tar jaayega
moti akal waale na samjhen
meri baat baareek hai
kyun chele jee
ghalat kahaan
nahin guru jee
thheek hai
hmm
man ko pinjre mein na daalo
man ka kahna mat taalo
man ko pinjre mein na daalo

aur kehte hain
man ko baandh ke rakho
arre bhaai kyun bhaai
kyun baandh ke rakkho

dheeli chhod do man ki lagaam
amar ho jaaye jag mein naam
kaise
jiske man ne kiya fly hai
bhaai
jiske man ne kiya fly hai
usne dekho mukti paayi hai
jaise raadha meera bai hai
donon ko hi mila krishn kanhaai hai
par jis jis ka man atak gaya
wo raahon mein bhatak gaya
agar zara ye khatak gaya
to samjho praani latak gaya
ye to hai ek udan kabootar
iska udna fact hai
kyun jee foreigner
wrong hai
no sir correct hai
very good
man ko pinjre mein na daalo
man ka kahna mat taalo
arre man to hai ek udta panchchi
jitna ude udaa lo
man ko
man ko pinjre mein na daalo
man ka kahna mat taalo

“Johar in Bombay” (1967) was directed by Shantilal Soni for Thakkar Films, Bombay. The movie had I S Johar, Sonia Sahni, K N Singh, Rajendranath, Madan Puri, Polson, Jeevankala etc in it.

This movie was one of several “Johar in…” series on movies, a bit like the “Carry on…” series of movies in Hollywood.
In this particular movie, I S Johar ties up with Rajendranath, both playing good for nothing slackers who somehow manage to save the coutry (if not the world) from evil scientists out to destroy the country (if not the world).

The movie had six songs in it. Five of these songs have been covered in the blog. Here is the sixth and final song from “Johar in Bombay” (1967). This song is a rare song in the sense that it is not available as a standalone song on YT as of now. The song is a roadside tamasha song where I s Johar and Rajendranath and seen performing a streetside dance alongwith their love interests- Sonia Sahni and Jeewankala (?). The dance performance have elements of punjabi folk dance followed by Maharashtrian lavani folk dance.

The song is sung by Mahendra Kapoor, S Balbir, Usha Timothy and Krishna Kalle. Qamar Jalalabadi is the lyricist. Music is composed by Usha Khanna.

Today (9 january 2018) happens to be the birth anniversary of Mahendra Kapoor (9 january 1934-27 september 2008). Quite fortuitously, this happens to the 300th song of Mahendra Kapoor in the blog. So this is a perfect tribute to the singer in the blog.

It also happens to be the 15th death anniversary of Qamar Jalalabadi (9 january 2003). So this song serves as a tribute to Qamar Jalalabadi as well.

With this song, “Johar in Bombay” (1967) joins the list of movies that have all their songs covered in the blog.

“Johar in Bombay” (1967) was directed by Shantilal Soni for Thakkar Pictures, Bombay. The movie had I S Johar, Sonia Sahni, K N Singh, Rajendranath, Madan Puri, Polson, Jeevankala etc in it.

This movie was a slapstick comedy where I S Johar and Rajendranath fumble their ways to glorious feats like defeating the nefarious designs of evil scientists with the help of Alladin’s jinn thanks to Alladin’s lamp that I S Johar accidentally comes across in his antique shop.

The movie had six songs in it. Four of these songs have been covered in the blog. All of them were covered in 2011. After a gap of over seven years, here is the next song from “Johar in Bombay” (1967) to appear in the blog. This song is a comedy song which is a parody of some popular songs of that era.

Mahendra Kapoor is the singer. The lyricist of the song is not known. Music is composed by Usha Khanna.

The song is picturised in the usual light hearted manner on I S Johar and others, meant to appeal mainly to low brow audiences. 🙂

Song-Meri pyaari pyaari soorat ko kisi ki chhuri na lage (Johar in Bombay)(1967) Singer-Mahendra Kapoor, Lyrics-Usha Khanna

Lyrics

meri pyaari pyaari soorat ko
kisi ki chhuri na lage
chashme baddur
chhuriyon ko chhupa lo bakshe mein
police ki nazar na lage
chashme baddur

yoon na peechhe phira karo
dhandha koi kiya karo
yoon na peechhe phira karo
dhandha koi kiya karo
tumse badhkar kaanyiyaan hoon main
chaal samajh kar chala karo
meri pyaari pyaari soorat ko
kisi ki chhuri na lage
chashme baddur

zara saamne to aao pagle
chhup chhup ladne mein kya raaz hai
zara main bhi to dekhoon zaalima
tu kaisa teerandaaj hai
zara saamne to aao pagle

bahaaron aag barsaao
koi bandook laaya hai
koi dambook laaya hai
o hunter
maut ban jaao
koi bandook laaya hai
koi dambook laaya hai
giro ae pattharon
in dusmanon ke kaale haathon par
chalo ae goliyon
kambakht gaddaaron ke seenon par
bahaaron aag barsaao
koi bandook laaya hai
koi dambook laaya hai

yaahoo
yaahoo
chaahe koi mujhe jungli kahe
kehne do ji kehta rahe
hum jang ke toofaanon mein gire hain
hum tang karenge
chaahe koi mujhe jungli kahe
yaahoo
yaahoo
yaahoo
yaahoo

I was under the impression that “Johar Mehmood in Goa”(1965) was YIPPEED with the last song that was discussed in the blog. Now it turns out that I had incorrectly assumed that song as a multiple version song and that a song from the movie was actually left to be discussed.

So here is this missing song from “Johar Mehmood in Goa”(1965). This song is sung by Kamal Barot, Shamsdhad Begam and chorus. Akhtar Romani is the lyricist. Music is composed by Kalyanji Anandji.

Several years ago, I read a tale that made my blood boil. It was about a 96 year old lady, whose palatial house was snatched away forcibly from her by greedy land grabbers and she was forced to stay in the servant quarters of her own prime property. She was no ordinary lady either. she was the first female IAS officer of India.

When media got wind of this fact, the people who had usurped her property hurriedly brought her back to the mansion to “prove” to the media that she was very much the “owner” of her property.

Law abiding people earn some amount for their living and then try to live within them. Then there are some ambitious people who work hard and improve their earning and rise in economic status. They still live within their earning.

This is a song sung by Asha Bhosle-for I.S.Johar ! Yes,don’t get surprised. She has given playback to a Male-in woman’s clothes. This is not the first time she has done it. Earlier too she sang for Kishore kumar in film ‘ Baap re Baap ‘-1955.

Today is the 31st of July(2014).

For many Hindi film music lovers, this date makes an immediate connect in their brain. To one of the most beloved persons to have ever been part of the Hindi film industry.

Yes, I am talking about Mohammad Rafi (or Rafisaab, as he is often respectfully referred to).

Today is the death anniversary of Rafisaab.

34 years ago, in 1980, a day that I remember vividly as if it were yesterday, Rafisaab left our midst.
