Churaa ke dil ban rahe hain bhholey

Recently , while discussing a mujra song composed by R D Burman, I made this observation that R D Burman had composed very few songs of this genre.
Now I have been given a list of lots and lots of mujra songs compositions of R D Burman by Prakashchandra. In fact he sent me the lyrics of a mujra song from the debut movie of R D Burman. Now I am suitably humbled by all this information which was not known to me.
Here is this mujra song from “Chhote Nawaab” (1961) which was the debut movie of R D Burman as an independent music director.
As far as I can tell, this movie depicts Mehmood as an aiyyaash person who spends his time in kotha, listening to mujra performed by Bela Bose while his wife, Ameeta waits patiently for him to come back home. The well known song from this movie, viz.Ghar aaja ghir aaye badra saanwariya, which sounds like a song sung by the wife calling her husband home is in fact a mujra song lip synced by Bela Bose while Ameeta is waiting for Mehmood to come home and Mehmood is busy watching the mujra. This song is already discussed in this blog and I knew it to be a mujra song, but then I obviously did not remember this fact while remarking about there being lack of such songs in R D Burman’s c v. Since Prakashchandra has sent me the lyrics of another song from “Chhote Nawaab” (1961) which is yet another mujra song, so it shows that R D Burman has composed his share of such songs, beginning with his debut movie itself.
The picturisation of this song is intereting as well as farfetched. Ameeta, wife of Mehmood decides to go to the kotha and see her husband’s reaction when he finds her there. It is Ameeta who sings this mujra while under parda, while Bela Bose and Aruna perform the mujra dance.Ameeta hides her face from Mehmood by a parda which makes her face invisible to Mehmood per perfectly visible to the audience. This kind of filmy parda has been given a very accurate name , viz “parda lite” by our beloved Memsaab.
Here is this mujra song from “Chhote Nawaab” (1961). It is sung by Lata. Shailendra is the lyricist. Apart from the characters mentioned above, Johny Walker, playing Mehmood’s comrade in watching such mujra performances, is also visible in the picturisation.
This mujra song is quite nice to listen to. I recall watching this movie sometime in the past, but I do not seem to recall most songs from this movie. But then there is nothing surprising in my amnesiac ways. I only seem to remember movies that I watched in 1970s, while my memories of movies watched in subsequent decades seem to have been deleted from the hard disk of my brain.

If my memory serves me right, In the movie plot,Ameeta is just fiancee of Mehmood(When the movie starts Mehmood was like a grown up child, who talks and acts very childishly like hadicapped by brain)Ameeta reforms mehmood. Then Mehmood becomes a suave shehri baabu and gets friendly with a grey character Anwar Hussain, (who is after mehmood`s riches,) introduces mehmood to nautch girl Helen.Mehmod then onwards become ayyash and nashebaaz and starts to ignore ameeta, then with the help of jhonnywalkar , ameetha tris to reform mehmood again.
Sorry, I am not very good at explaining the story of the movie. If at all my movie story description is wrong, please excuse me.
Another Helen song is melodious from this movie(which is yet to be posted, one helen song was already been posted) and two more songs are there picturised on mehmood(yet to be posted)

“Ghar aa jaa ghir aaye badra sanwariya” was picturised on
SHEILA VAAZ and Ameetha.It was not lip synced by Bela bose.

***** star for this song and R D Burman. I had heard this song many years back but for the video clip, I would not have known that it was a mujra song.

Doing easily what others find difficult is the talent. Each second and minute filled with sweet ecstasy in this song. RDB has bring the softness in Lata’s voice.

Beautiful song/mujra. One can judge how musical R.D. Burman was just by listening to this song. Eventhough, he was trained by his father, S.D.Burman, he choose his own style of composing music. This song proves that. Thanks Prakashchandraji and Atulji.
