Atul’s Song A Day- A choice collection of Hindi Film & Non-Film Songs

Hamko tumhaare ishq ne kyaa kyaa banaa diyaa

Posted on: November 22, 2011

When I take a look at the list of movies whose songs have figured in this blog, I find that just over 1800 movies are represented in the blog. Most of these movies date from 1930s upto 1980s, during which time about 5600 Hindi movies got censors certificate. So roughly speaking about one third of all released movies till 1980s are represented in this blog.

With time, number of songs for these movies have also increased in number. Now there are many movies where all their songs have already been discussed in this blog. And there are other movies where we are almost there.

Take the movie “Ek Musaafir Ek Haseena” (1962), for instance. This movie, to the best of my knowledge, has a dozen songs, including two multiple version songs. Multiple version songs are songs sung by different artists but with similar lyrics. In this blog, we discuss multiple version songs as one song, though technically they are separate songs.

In other words. “Ek Musaafir Ek Haseena” (1962) has 10 songs by this blog’s calculation and seven of them have already been discussed. That leaves only three more songs to be discussed.

Here is one of the missing songs. This song is sung by Rafi. It is picturised on Joy Mukherji and Sadhana. Shewan Rizvi is the lyricist. Music is composed by O P Nayyar.

Lyrics of this song were sent to me by nahm. Translation of this song are provided by Sudhir jee.

Aaaa aaaa

aaaa aaaa aaaa
ham ko tumhaare ishq ne
kya kya banaa diyaa
jab kuchh na ban sake to
tamaasha banaa diyaa
ham ko tumhaare ishq ne
kya kya banaa diyaa

Kaashi se kuchh garaz thhi naa
Qaabe se waastaa
ham dhoondhne chale thhe
mohabbat ka raastaa
dekhaa tumhaare dar ko to
sar ko jhukaa diyaa
jab kuchh na ban sake to
tamaasha banaa diyaa

dil ki lagi ne kar diyaa
donon ko beqaraar
dohraa ke daastaan-e-mohabbat
phir ek baar
Majnoon hamen aur aap ko
Laila banaa diyaa
jab kuchh na ban sake to
tamaasha banaa diyaa

nikley teri talaash mein
aur khud hi kho gaye
kuchh ban padi na hum se
to deewaane ho gaye
dewaangee ne phir
tera koochaa dikhaa diyaa
jab kuchh na ban sake to
tamaasha banaa diyaa

jalwon ki bheekh
phenkne waale ki khair ho
parda hataa ke dekhne waale ki
khair ho
oooo
ban ke bhikaari ishq ne
daaman bichhaa diyaa
jab kuchh na ban sake to
tamaasha banaa diyaa
ham ko tumhaare ishq ne
kya kya banaa diyaa

ham ko tumhaare ishq ne kya kya banaa diyaa
jab kuchh na ban sake to tamaasha banaa diyaa

This love of mine for you, makes me play so many roles
And when no more roles remain, it made me the spectacle itself

Kaashi se kuchh garaz thhi naa Qaabe se waastaa
ham dhoondhne chale thhe mohabbat ka raastaa
dekhaa tumhaare dar ko to sar ko jhukaa diyaa

I am not a seeker of divinity, be it in Kaashi or Qaabaa
What I turned out to seek is the path of love
And when I found your abode, I bowed down at your doorstep
(NOTE: Kaashi (also known as Benaras) is one of the seven holiest cities, as per traditions of the Hindu religion. Kaabaa (in Mecca) is the most sacred place of worship, for followers of Islamic religion)

dil ki lagi ne kar diyaa donon ko beqaraar
dohraa ke daastaan-e-mohabbat phir ek baar
Majnoon hamen aur aap ko Laila banaa diyaa

Infatuations of the heart have made us (both) restless and fervent
And the saga of passionate love is enacted once again
Personifying yourself as Laila, while Majnoon is assayed by myself
(NOTE: The reference here is to the legendary love story of Laila and Majnoon, which has its origin in the Arabic culture)

nikley teri talaash mein aur khud hi kho gaye
kuchh ban padi na hum se to deewaane ho gaye
deewaangee ne phir tera rastaa dikhaa diyaa

I began this effort, in search of you
And in the process, I lost my own self
With no visible outcomes realized
Being crazy in love seems the only sensible outcome
And lo, this craziness, it brings me once gain
To the paths you traverse

jalwon ki bheekh phenkne waale ki khair ho
parda hataa ke dekhne waale ki khair ho
ban ke bikhaari ishq ne daaman bichhaa diyaa

Let the fate smile on her
Who bestows the benefaction of her graceful splendor
Let the fate smile on her
Who would lift the veil and look (and show her lovely face)
Like a beggar, your lover spreads his raiment in your path

Atul ji, Khyati ji,

Small correction. The lines

“ban ke bigaadi ishq ne”
“daaman bithaa diyaa”

should read

“ban ke bhikhaari ishq ne”
“daaman bichhaa diyaa”

Also, in the line

“jalwon ki bheek h”

please remove space between ‘bheek’ and ‘h’.

I think Atul ji is still not convinced about the words “Daaman bichhaa diya” 🙂

Atul ji, Nahm ji,

The complete song is longer and contains one more antaraa. The longer audio version is available at

The lyrics for the additional antaraa are

nikley teri talaash mein
aur khud hi kho gaye
kuchh ban padi na hum se
to deewaane ho gaye
dewaangee ne phir
tera koochaa dikhaa diyaa
jab kuchh na ban sakey to
tamaasha banaa diyaa

In the complete version, this antaraa is placed as third, before the antaraa starting ‘jalwon ki bheekh. . .’.

This antaraa was apparently not included in the film.

Sudhir Sir,

Thanks a lot for completing the song. And double thanks for providing the translation. This stanza was missing in both the links which i found. Even after repeated hearing the words were sounding “ban ke bigaadi ishq ne daaman bitha diya”. I make such mistakes and atul ji usually corrects them. Yesterday when i saw this song posted i checked the words again.

The audio quality of the fuller link is much better, and these words are crystal clear.

This song is not that well known. I might have heard it earlier , but it is a recent discovery. I was also wondering if the mukhda is someone’s shair, because it is more familiar.

Atul ji,

This is eight song posted from this film. I was able to find one more song, a solo by Asha bhosle, on some music websites. But did not send the lyrics as there was no link available on either youtube or daily motion. This song is written by Shevan Rizvi.

Regards.

I don’t comment on every song, or even CLOSE actually, because it’s hard to keep up with you guys, but want to thank you again for providing English translations when possible. I know it is a lot of work, but I really learn a lot from those efforts and appreciate them 😀
